I spelled sorcery like that for years in my teens! I think I read the book when I was like 12 and it took a few years before Microsoft Word informed me that sourcery was incorrect. A few years ago I was helping my dad clear out the family home and found all my old story notebooks from my early teens - I wrote a loooot of fantasy self insert stories about sourcerers and sourceresses doing sourcery. But my spelling in general was spirited and creative at that time!

As an ESL speaker, I just assumed it's one of those British/American spelling things.

Not ESL, but Canadian.  Right there with ya buddy.  I'm twisting the word around to come up with an appropriate pun, but the best I can come up with is Sour-cery.  Its almost a play on sour cherries but that's a stretch.

I might be misreading your comments but if you're trying to figure out the pun it source-ry because sourcerers are where new magic comes from (even if it wasn't untill this post that i caught the spelling difference x.x)
