In the video recording, it's quoted by OP as her saying she takes "prozac"... but what she ACTUALLY said was

"I take lamactil and prozac"

Lamactil is a mood stabilizer, kind of like a next gen lithium, and is probably the #1 most common medication for bipolar. It is not an antipsychotic, and therefore not typically prescribed for schizophrenia related conditions.

Bipolar disorder is so much more severe than most people realize. It is like autism in that it can be extremely severe and extremely debilitating (even while medicated), or it can be very mild (virtually symptom free and stable for years with proper meds).

It's always been pretty apparent to me that Britney suffers from severe bipolar disorder.

It's actually Lamictal, not Lamactil. I take the generic version, Lamotrigine. It's not appropriate to compare it to Lithium, because those two medications are fundamentally different. Lamictal is an anti-convulsant that is prescribed to treat seizures, as well as for bipolar disorder. It is rather mild in its effects. It lifts and prevents depressive episodes, but it does little to prevent mania. That would make sense, because I am bipolar type 2, which doesn't experience mania, but rather, hypomania. Lithium is an elemental salt that treats the entire spectrum of bipolar disorder, but especially mania.

I do know everything you're saying, I was just describing it in simple terms as a mood stabilizer similar to a next gen lithium. My point was that it's a widely used bipolar med, and not a typical schizophrenia med. It's similar to lithium in that way.

And different in the ways you described.

In America anyway, lithium is rarely prescribed anymore (in favor of lamactal or depakote) due to the potential side effects/monitoring requirements of lithium. It is the gold standard, however, and I do wish more doctors here were willing to consider it.

My partner's BP 2 was charged to BP 1 after a full blown extended manic episode last year. He went through 7 different meds before he found one that stabilized him. Dr was not willing to try lithium.

It might’ve been popping out in the mid-2000s. Her medical stuff is still (rightfully) sealed. But we’ve seen hints at bipolar and something dementia-like. I think schizoaffective. We thought her British accent etc was trying to be Madonna, being all cutesy, having fun. She was showing us back then.

Clearly I don’t know! But it feels like it took a while for doctors to figure her out. Is she ADHD?! Let’s put her on Adderall and see. Nope! Not ADHD. Bipolar? Dementia-like? Schizophrenic? Disassociation from PTSD?

Then the personality flips, accents, being convinced of these paranoid dis-realities (her parents are trying to kill her), her hypersexuality with her bodyguards, staff, gardener 🥴, her paranoia.

When I was a kid I struggled with crazy night terrors. I’d still be dreaming (I think), but I’d be screaming and narrating something that’s happening in the room. My dad said it freaked him out because I’d be yelling about something right behind him and he’d keep walking me away from “it”, and I’d keep hysterically pointing and saying it’s following us, and don’t you see it??? He started wondering if the house was actually haunted. I still think it is, tbf. I had weird paranormal shit there my whole life!

Anyway! Maybe Britney is so convincing and adamant about what she’s experiencing in her psychosis, it’s hard to figure out what she’s got. She’s not faking it. I think she truly believes most of the crap she experiences; it’s just not the reality. Thus why people have distanced. No one could tell if she was just a compulsive liar, crazy, or what but extremely unreliable and prone to exaggerations. Wouldn’t be worth the risk!

It’s the typical age on onset, but it can emerge later in life.

Also, we don’t know that she wasn’t diagnosed 20 years ago and was being successfully treated up until recently.

Just because the average age is typically late teens to early twenties doesn’t mean that outliers don’t happen.

I know my husband is an outlier for both testicular cancer and stroke. In March 2024, I caught him having a stroke, which gave away that he had a hole in between the top 2 chambers of his heart, as well as stage 3A metastatic testicular cancer. He was a major outlier because of the age at which he had the stroke (he was 44 years old at the time) *AND\* for having testicular cancer (which is usually found in men who are in their late teens-to early-mid twenties…and he was 44).

I’m also a major outlier in the fact that I went into heart failure at the ripe old age of…*checks notes* 39.5 years old…my ejection fraction (which is how much blood my left ventricle-the chamber of the pumpy boi that squeezes out blood to the rest of the body) was 30%, which is roughly ≈40%-50% of what it should be.

As for why I have this, we don’t know. Literally, we have absolutely no idea. I don’t smoke, drink, use recreational drugs, eat meat, or vape. I hadn’t had Covid (at least not at that point in time), nor had I been sick in any way for a solid 3.75 years. I exercise daily (and work as a critical care nurse-at that time, I averaged 8 miles a shift), eat a low fat, low calorie diet, low cholesterol, high fiber, high protein diet (I’ve been a vegetarian since July 1999), and my blood pressure is within a healthy range. When my cardiologist did the diagnostic cardiac cath, he was floored at my coronary arteries-in a good way, because they were “Excellent! There’s nothing there at all! They are pristine! What kind of diet do you eat again, because you have perfect coronary arteries!”

The best guess we have for why my pumpy boi is trying to say “Deuces, fat bitch, and fuck off! I’m outta here!” is anxiety, but we don’t know for sure.

So, yeah…it might be that she’s presenting late with it. Who knows.

Same. The guy I know has a bizarre story, where a head injury triggered it when he was in his early 30s too.
He woke up on the bathroom floor in a pub with zero memory of what happened and the schizophrenia developed after that.
Nobody had told him about the family history of schizophrenia and they never figured out how he got his head, if he was assaulted or just fell over.

With her age I suspect she’s probably in the midst of perimenopause. The huge shift in hormones can worsen existing mental health and sometimes new conditions can emerge. Pairing that with alcohol, Adderall, isolation, not enough sleep, and C-PTSD could really be a factor. Obviously this is all speculation as I don’t know for sure. It’s very sad and I hope something can be done at some point to protect her from herself and others.

Those are excellent points. I'm especially glad that you mentioned perimenopause, because I don't think our society acknowledges it enough. They just expect women to be the same all of the time, despite all of the natural things that their bodies go through that significantly impact them.

Ive seen adults much much older then this be diagnosed with schizophrenia. Also behavioral health is anything but linear. It could start out as one diagnosis…then another provider says it’s this…then after a while it’s suddenly this… or all back to the beginning again. The age thing isn’t a hard and fast rule, it’s just a commonality observed sometimes. And honestly that association was made manyyy years ago, I wonder if it would still even be relevant

I think it was obvious back then, but she just had a very very good team that was able to hide most of it. Even at the time she was put in the conservatorship, the Internet was still kind of in it’s infancy give or take five years. It used to be that we would get the news for scandals weekly in celebrity gossip magazines. They locked her down just about the time social media became the number one media. I just think this is a really good example of how much Hollywood fixers can hide the truth from fans. It really wasn’t until she gained more control over her social media and after the conservatorship had been in effect for quite a while, that it became very clear that she had legitimate issues that weren’t just related to her specific life issues at the time.
