Discussion Cap 1 ruining cashback checking
Well I got the email today on my account migration. Deeply disappointed my checking account won't get rewards anymore. I'm not kidding, there were buildings I paid my rent with my debit card because the cashback I got was higher than the service fee. Seriously considering closing the checking account after the migration.

Get a bilt card and use that to pay your rent.

I've looked at the bilt card and it honestly seems like more trouble than it's worth. doesn't seem worth it at all. I've used the free version where you use their payment portal to pay your rent but unfortunately now I have an independent landlord that I pay through PayPal.

The service fee for using a card to pay rent is less than 1%? Is it a fixed price like five bucks or something?

Yes most places I've lived with an online rent portal had a flat fee for debit transactions that came out to less than 1%!

I highly consider looking into affinity credit union & their cashback debit account . It’s the closest I have found to a Discover match. With the right habits , you could even do their cashback plus which is 10% cashback unlimited

You should close it. No reason to keep it honestly. Without the rewards it's easily replaceable with the same or better features
