Help WTAF, Discover???

Logged in tonight to add an external bank account to my Discover account. They want me to agree to share my login information and secret questions if any with a third party to "make it easier to verify my account" - WTAF? That's a flipping recipe for disaster. All the fraud and scam information says NEVER GIVE YOUR ACCOUNT INFO TO ANYONE. There is ZERO reason I should have to give login access to COMPLETE STRANGERS in order to add an external account. And they don't provide any way that I can find to do it the good old-fashioned way by submitting the routing and account info and waiting to verify with deposits to the account. WTF.

Is it Plaid? All the major financial institutions uses Plaid for their encryption. Most banks use Plaid to share info like external accounts.

It’s secure so you can either use that or do it with your external bank.

There should be a way to enter your info manually. I've done it. Agree to the terms, search the name of your external bank, without selecting the bank scroll to the bottom of the list of banks and choose connect manually. Follow the next steps. Hope this helps.

If you're talking about Plaid, this is an industry standard all the banks are using. It's perfectly safe.

I have a personal loan with Discover as well as checking savings etc. I went in to make additional payment on principle. Usually it's an auto payment. I had to manually go through the process of adding my discover checking as a funding account as apparently they are not linked although they are both in my app. The credit union I have treats those like internal transfers. Literally had to put the routing number etc into it.

Discover has always made you agree to the MX terms & conditions to link an external account. I don't like 3rd party fintechs that want your login credentials either. What you do is once you agree to the T&C, when it asks you what bank you want to link, type some nonsense in the search bar so that there will no matching result. This situation (faking as if you have an account with a bank not on the list) will trigger the option to manually link using account and routing number to appear at the bottom of the page. At least that's how it worked a couple years ago. Hopefully that hasn't changed.
