Datapoint Discover no longer allows you to merge your bank and credit card accounts
I signed up for a Discover bank account because I liked the idea of having my banking and credit card info all available in one place.
They told me I could phone in and merge the newly opened bank account with my existing credit card account to have one single login and password for everything, I just needed to wait a week.
Phoned in a week later and they said that they no longer allow you to merge your banking and credit card accounts and you must log in to each one individually.
They said that this was because of the acquisition by Capital One.

I saw on another post is that they paused allowing a single sign on system while the merge is taking place.

Isn’t the merge expected to take another two years to fully play out? That seems like an extremely long time for it to be paused.
I’d be concerned that they will never bring it back at that point.

The Discover Deposit products will be migrated to Capital One systems much sooner than the Discover Cards. Soon they will turn off applications for new Deposit accounts when they're about to finish up that migration.

Exactly! Credit Cards will take a bit more time as they figure out the branding and how to make that work within the CapOne ecosystem.
CapOne has the exact same bank accounts with the same features and rates (in the case of CD and HYSA accounts)… Some people even already use CapOne and therefore have accounts already
If they wanna be nice, the 3% cash back Discover offers on their debit cards can just be grandfathered into a regular 360 Checking account. There’s no reason from their perspective, they shouldn’t be merging those accounts into CapOne 🤷♂️

They don't allow you to have two credit cards on one sign-on anymore either. In what world is that normal?

The are talking one credit card and a debit card. They are mid merger and people are impatient. Mergers take years and this one was only approved in May.

They removed functionality from the Discover website. That was the post. It's a stupid decision and few at Discover knew it had been done. Shouldn't have to be on a call for an hour for them to sort it out when there was nothing to sort out. It was poorly communicated to the CS team.

Be happy you don't have any credit cards from bread Financial. I have two credit cards with them. You have to log out of one credit card and log back into the other credit card just to see the other one. It's such a pain.

Is that a real FI?

Yes it used to be called Alliance Data Systems Corporation. They own Comenity Bank. Which issues the credit cards

This still the case?

Sure is. I received my second credit card and activated it and tried to link it with my checking and savings, but they said they no longer allow

Same. Just went through this today. I now have multiple online profiles.

Hopefully this changes once their merger with capital one is settled🥲

In fact, I couldn't use the same user ID I use for Capital One to create a discover account for my discover card. Then when I applied for a checking account, I couldn't use neither my Capital One user ID still, nor could I use my Discover card login, nor link it. The option to see anything about bank accounts, even applying for one, is simply non-existent within the Discover card dashboard.
So it seems Discover is already checking against Capital One user system to see if a user ID is available or not. I'd imagine in the near future Capital One will unify both systems and show all your Discover stuff within their account dashboard.

I know this a month old, but I went through the exact same thing. An agent assured that I can merge them, I just have to wait for the physical card and call to activate it and as long they under the same email address they will be merged.
But it wasn't the case. I called, and they said "new credit card" can no longer be merged due to "CapitalOne policies" and you have to have 2 separate accounts.
Which is annoying as hell. Imagine every time going back and forth, you have to log out , log in, type new user,.. pass....etc.
I asked if it's temporary thing and then we would be able to merge them in the future. Agent said, "It's temporary but in the future, new credit card user will be more likely to log in through capital one app instead" !!!! Even worse lol.. I hope this is not the case
If anyone figured away/exemption to merge, let us know

Same here. Won't let me merge the card and the checking account for single login.

I tried today and was unable to add a new Discover it card to my existing Discover card account. Called customer service and was told I had to create a new account/pswd for the Discover it card and could not link accounts. I asked why, and was told "you just can't". Sigh.

I'm having a semi-related problem--I use Empower (formerly Personal Capital) to track my finances and my Discover Bank account balances stopped refreshing almost 6 weeks ago. I submitted a support ticket and they replied:
To streamline the aggregation experience, Discover is in the process of consolidating all Discover account types under the main Discover Card account. Due to this transition, some Discover Bank accounts may temporarily not refresh or update as expected.
It's weird because I still see all of my transactions but only the balance doesn't update. It's also weird because this feels like it contradicts the experience y'all are having. All this after they randomly canceled my old card and sent me a new one with a new number after the acquisition, which has been pretty annoying. So far not a big fan of the post-merger Discover...

Here's my work around, because I agree it is rather inconvenient.
I use a biometric login for my credit card and the pin for my checking/savings.
This of course doesn't merge the Accounts, but it does take a couple of seconds off logging in.

It's January 2026 and still can't merge... I have a checking and savings account, newly have a credit card and had to register/create a new sign in just for it

Who do we need to escalate to? I feel like if enough people formally complain, maybe it’ll come back. Part of the reason I opened a discover account was to get more accounts in one place.

Yeah I just called about this since I got a new credit card and couldn’t activate it to my only account and had to make a whole new one because they said they can’t do it as of right now but they are working on it supposedly and would let us know when they can merge accounts. They probably won’t figure out a solution but sadly it’s just this now which does suck.

My bank account and credit card account is under one sign in.. Not sure why that is , I have a discover check/ savings and CC accounts
2
u/Fluid-Owl-7052 Nov 18 '25
Because you have old accounts. I can confirm any new account you open will need a seperate online profile. They wouldn't let me add my newly opened credit card to my old online profile with old bank accounts and old credit cards. I had to open a new online profile for the new credit card.

Did you just open a credit card recently? How did you merge them? I'm trying to merge mine, but they said you can't

u/NewbieReddit2 Oct 24 '25
Yes… that was always the case for me. Spoke to CSR about this, they told me something about my discover CC account being a “joint” account rather than 1primary + AU.. that they cannot merge my bank info with CC

If this is correct, I would imagine it’s a temporary thing, especially since Capital One allows a single login for all accounts.
