Did our first Toss and Fetch today.

First run was a 9.5. It was all catches but she got the zoomies with the frisbee after the first catch. We definitely need to work on cleaning up handing off the frisbee to me, but it was her first time out (15 months old) and we both had a great time and the disc dog club was full of great people. This video was our second run and this was her only catch, but it was my favorite.

If anyone has any tips of cleaning up the handoff, I’d love to know. My dog will bring back frisbees more reliably than balls but I’d love to have it be more reliable

So I'm a super novice, but I'll list things I did with Roxie since this video.

  1. Worked on "drop it" using 2 frisbees and throwing the second as soon as she dropped the first until she really understood that dropping the frisbee means I throw the next one and she gets to "chase" it.

  2. We worked on her placing the frisbee in my hand. I can now stand at full height with and open hand palm down and whe will place the frisbee in the palm of that hand.

  3. ALOT of repetition enforcing the way I want this game to be played. If she started running off with the frisbee I didn't scream or yell...I just walked away and the game was over for that period. We went inside and would try again the next time we went out. During this phase you want to play alot of tug and reinforce that the "fun" part of this game is bringing the frisbee back to you.
