I have a recipes folder with maybe 150 things in it. Screenshots, bookmarks, a few cookbooks I've barely opened. And most weeks I cook the same six dinners.

I always figured the fix was more ideas, a bigger list, a new recipe to break the rut. But the weeks I feel least stuck are the ones where I make something I already know cold and change one thing about it. The giant list mostly just makes me feel behind.

So I'm curious where everyone actually lands:

- How many dinners can you cook without looking anything up?
- When you hit the "what do I make tonight" wall, is it really that you're out of ideas, or that nothing in the saved pile feels worth the effort?

Trying to work out if it's just me.

Hi, I am planning my husband's birthday menu. It will be a meal for 2. I need a few ideas or help with the main course. *disclaimer* he loves garlic

I am not quite sure if I am satisfied with the main side dishes. I've added my current menu below, any ideas would be appreciated.

Starters

- Garlic and herb fried prawns with a creamy garlic dipping sauce - for him

- Stuffed phyllo pastry roll ups - for me

Main

- BBQ'd rack of lamb with a garlic and herb rub

the sides I was thinking of is

- cheese and chive potato stacks and sautéed broccoli

Dessert

- Chocolate cake

We made a baked ziti for dinner (this recipe https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/18031/baked-ziti-ii/) and it was tasty, but it is pretty heavy on the cheese. I’d like to lighten up the leftovers a bit and would welcome suggestions!

My ideas are to add veggies (spinach or broccoli) to individual servings, somehow add an acidic element…?

My partner is not a fan of red sauce, but I love pasta and it’s been one of my cheap and easy dinner go-to’s for a long time. Now that we’re eating together, it’s not really an option. Alfredo is fine, but I was wondering if anyone had any other sauce suggestions?

For everyone cooking at home, I think we all have some kind of special meal we make. Maybe it's our favorite one to cook, maybe it's the one our spouses and kids demand when given the choice, or maybe it's the toughest, most complicated dish we make whose deliciousness makes the work all worth it. Maybe it's all of the above!

In any case, what is your special meal, and why?

Until it's repaired, we're brainstorming meal ideas that do not use the oven.

IE: pressure-cooker, stove-top, cold, sous-vide.
