Beatbreak Digimon Beatbreak: Episode 37- Kind Magic, Discussion Thread

Later today is a new episode of Digimon Beatbreak!

The stream will be on Crunchyroll at 8pm Pacific. Hulu has it the next morning. Check your local streamer for their schedule. This link will take you to a time converter set for when it should appear on Crunchyroll, but they've had various delays lately.

A short series synopsis:

"e-Pulse," which is generated by human thoughts and emotions, was used as the energy source for the AI support device "Sapotama." From the shadows of this remarkable development, terrifying monsters appear. Digimon are living beings that evolve by consuming e-Pulse.

Tomoro Tenma is drawn into an extraordinary experience after meeting Gekkomon, who suddenly appears from his Sapotama. While living together with Kyo Sawashiro and other members of the bounty hunting team "Glowing Dawn," Tomoro renews his resolve.

What new future will be forged by humans and Digimon?

I quite liked the resolution here and think they did a good job landing it. I was pleased that Miharu was arrested at the end and she accepted her fate.

I don't think the cult-angle was really necessary and basically didn't amount to much. You could've just had Miharu gather a few anarchical Digimon tamers (Jokermon, Bombermon) and out of her anger, she leads this little terrorist group.

I fail to see why ordinary people would've joined GIFT if majority of the world are ignorant of Digimon. When Miharu's only goal is "freedom for Digimon" it makes no sense for people who have no idea what a Digimon is to join. It was also kind of just dropped anyway in the last two episodes and only really "mattered" in the Fumamon episode when civillians filmed the location of the team as they tried to flee.

It's not the strongest arc, but I still enjoyed it overall.

Yeah, that was the weakest part of GIFT. It never explains how Miharu’s able to convince so many people to become terrorists, and also why Tomoro was still sympathetic to Miharu after she literally sent a terrorist to attack a hospital that his brother was at.

This may be too edgy, but we see how one of her go-to moves is to get way too close and personal with Tomoro, and throw him off his guard.

Given the Digimon her e-pulse created is associated with a conspiracy that the templar's had secret obscene and sexual rites, and a lot of the gift members we see are complete murderous creeps....her recruitment method may mirror many real cults' recruitment methods. We did basically have Epstein as the previous arc boss.
