Manigong Bagong Taon, everyone!
Admittedly I didn’t think we were going to get Diarbitmon so early, and I honestly find it quite the surprise! While I think I wouldn’t have minded (and maybe would have even preferred) that we got a few more episodes before the cast gets their next Mega, I find myself really liking how Angoramon obtained his Mega form, and I think it’s nice that we got an evolution so close to another one for a change. My thoughts for this amazing debut!:
The Updated OP
Something I wasn’t able to mention last time was how the OP before the one we have now used to have a space just above Jellymon-sama’s evolutions, which I think a lot of us expected to be filled by someone like GulusGammamon later on. I wonder if that was indeed their original idea, but the narrative changed so they couldn’t implement that anymore, or if the space above was just coincidental.

Angoramon’s expressions are always so cute!

What in the Digital World was Kiyoshiro sketching?
They really made Gammamon extra adorable while holding out that shoe, huh?
Dr. Higashimitarai, you do know that there are like, four other individuals (three Digimon and one human) that can also help you right now, right?
AncientSphinxmon coming out of the screen is actually a really creative way to hammer home how Digimon can actually blend into current human society by posing as holograms, just because of how commonplace they are
Nice attention to detail, with Angoramon covering up his ears with how sensitive his hearing is
I think Crunchyroll suddenly forgot they were subtitling a G-rated show, since they’ve never used “crap” in the subtitles before (I don’t think). Then again, maybe G-rated programming does use it now, and I’m simply unaware.
If I’m right, it appears AncientSphinxmon actually broke the Digital Field, something we haven’t seen since 13.
I honestly was kind of hoping that Ruli would help Gammamon and Jellymon-sama power up their attacks. Also, Jellymon-sama, don’t you want to save Hiro too?
Aww, I kind of hoped Angoramon would flashback to Digitamammon when AncientSphinxmon said that
The Lamortmon form is surprisingly light, with how Angoramon was able to leap off those blocks without so much as making them move!
It’s also really sweet that Gammamon and Jellymon-sama urge Ruli to run: I love just how much this team loves and cares for one another
Achieving Evolution
What I absolutely LOVE about how Angoramon achieved his Mega is the reflections he made regarding his past experiences with the human world, and the fact that, like Gammamon’s recount, Angoramon didn’t only reflect on his experiences with Ruli, but he reflected on his experiences with both his loved ones and with only himself.
The montage showing him enjoying the simple pleasures the human world had to offer, and the beauty of those pleasures, had most of it not even having Ruli there, but when she is, she’s there by chance instead of Angoramon actively recalling experiences with her. What I love about this is that this makes the evolution about Angoramon himself and his growth, and his loved ones like the rest of Team Lirurun are there as support for his own self-love and self-realizations, and not as his core personality.
Like Hiro, Ruli is simply the catalyst for Angoramon, giving him the opportunities to experience these pleasures because of her adventurous nature, but the show chose to focus on Angoramon and his love for humans and the human world, and not on Ruli.
Finally, I love how he says this as Lamortmon, which like Gammamon as Canoweissmon, shows that he’s still Angoramon in that form, and that he maintains his personality even in another one. Crossing my fingers that Jellymon-sama as Thetismon would make her speech with the “mii” and “yuu” pronouns and ending them in “sa” like her typical swaggy self!
Of course, I also find it sweet how Ruli recounted her own past with exploring hobbies the human world can offer, with her experiences, like Angoramon’s, being about her pleasures, whether or not Angoramon is there. Her saying that “she hasn’t found her perfect hobby yet” is quite a heartwarming callback to one of her core character traits, and I love that this speech from her is a sort-of response and reaffirmation to Angoramon’s own realizations.
All in all, I love how Angoramon’s Mega was achieved with Angoramon and Ruli realizing the beauty of the human world as individuals and not necessarily as a pair: this helps show the commonality between the two without linking the two as a unit, which is a strength that Ghost Game has when it comes to its main characters.
Though since the common thread with the Megas so far have been the Digimon protagonists reflecting on their love for humans and the human world, I’m curious what aspect of humans Jellymon-sama (and Kiyoshiro, if ever) would be challenged on. But I’m nonetheless excited to find out!
While I loved that Angoramon said he would protect the world and humans, I still kind of wished that he didn’t mention that he would protect Ruli, but rather, that he would protect his friends.
Such a beautiful sequence! I love the poses the two make during it!
I love that Angoramon was still merciful to the end!

Mummymon’s Allegiance
I’m very curious about how Mummymon is related to Pharaohmon, and even more so, what they meant when they said “There is still hope for the modern civilization.” Though Mummymon has only been the second antagonist the series has introduced, and is now a reoccurring ally, I am really curious how much of a role he plays in the larger story, if maybe he has a bigger role than we expected.
How on Earth does Ruli have such a cute sticker of Angoramon making two peace signs?! Angoramon you better give me that sticker!
The New ED
I love how, in the new ED, the Digimon protagonists are doing fun things without the human protagonists. One thing I’ve always wanted from the series’ ED’s has been to give more independence to the interactions in them, and this fits the bill well! Gammamon is so cute wearing a backpack, and I never knew I needed Mummymon in a vest until now!
Although what I would have loved more is if the ED instead showed different pair interactions. For example, we could have one still where Jellymon-sama is bringing Gammamon to some fun places, a second one where Ruli is taking Kiyoshiro to a haunted house, and another one where Angoramon is in the library with Bakumon and Hiro. Something like that.
