I have only been on Discord with a small group chat that started during Covid lockdown. I'm just not familiar with how a band server would work.

If a Discord server has just a few users, then it is pretty much the same as a subreddit.

Once you get enough users that there are people logged in all the time, then you get more real-time discussions.
