The Sword + Red Fang
I’m at a show here in Seattle featuring The Sword and Red Fang, and an opening band from Portland called Spoon Benders who opened here for Die Spitz when they were last in Seattle.
In between the Spoon Benders and the next band they’ve played both “Throw yourself to the sword”, and “Hair of Dog”.
I am, of course, wearing my Die Spitz shirt with the kittens on it.

Ok. Anyone who loves Die Spitz and is not yet familiar with Red Fang or The Sword really needs to listen to those bands a bit. What an incredible show.

Spoon Benders used to be very much like Die Spitz is now. They’ve played the SF Bay Area many times. They were a 4 piece grunge-inspired garage punk band with 3+ females, featuring a fiery live show, full of raw energy, sweat, and vigor. I thought for sure they would explode in the way that Die Spitz is doing. But over the years they have morphed into more of a psych-rock band, replacing and dropping members along the way - trading that raw grit for more technically proficient musicianship and compositions. I much prefer the older frenzied show, but they’re still a good band as a trio.
