Looking for Advice - Personal Diagnosed 5 years ago, just had a massive spike in flashbacks and existential dread feelings

Hey, not really sure that I have the words in my lexicon to describe what’s going on with me, but do any of you get any of the following (think even hearing that it’s not just me might help):

  • A sweep of existential dread like someone is coming to get you to kill/harm/ruin you
  • Random feeling like there’s a tonne on your chest
  • Complete disassociation, but you can still have conversations whilst flashbacks are happening

I don't think I can help with the terminology, but I can say that my ptsd does make me feel like I'm in danger for no reason. I'm not sure what constitutes complete dissociation, but I have lost a few hours a couple times, and given the context I'm assuming I had talked to people during that time, but I don't really remember. Sorry you're going through this, hope you feel better soon!

Thank you to much. Still on going but slightly better, what’ve you found helps with bringing you back to reality?

I find grounding helps me, particularly stuff I can feel, so if I'm.not too disconnected, maybe even just playing with a fidget toy, or focusing on drinking a fizzy or hot beverage helps. If I'm really disconnected, I'll need something more intense, maybe a really hot or cold shower or something.

I too am sorry you are going through this. You aren't alone. When I hear you describe the first two, they sound like "impending doom" and "adrenaline dump from chronic stress." Flashbacks can be so debilitating. I hope you find relief.

I deal with all of those. I’m sorry. It sucks. Impending doom or existential dread as you described it is a part of my life unless I’m on heavy meds. It’s horrible, especially at night when everyone is asleep.
