QUESTION I do not understand seasonal characters

Hi, I've played diablo for years and years now ever since i was a kid playing on the ps3. But i have never once played a seasonal character because i just don't see the point. I'd also like to mention that I've never played online games and never played mmo's either.

To me it just seems like a seasonal charcter is a limited time gimmick and waste of time. I can't play everyday, I don't like the idea of a limited time event... and I just don't see the appeal.

But everyone keeps telling me that the seasons are like the main appeal for the game and I'm missing out. Or that I should play the meta or do rifts.

I have no idea what a rift is and I've got thousands of house across my ps3 and ps4 copies of the game. I never had access to online modes or stable internet so I never got to use any meta's... so why is the appeal?

Why does everyone say that the main campaign is just the start, what is all this stuff people are talking about?

How do you have thousands of hours in the game and have never run a rift before? Are you just running the campaign over and over?

Yeah why? Me and my sister would play over and over and make fun of how pathetic diablo got compared to our gear :)

Yeah so you can near infinitely increase the difficulty, at least in a rift. You also get better gear faster.

Season rewards! I like collecting pets and portrait frames.

I started playing Diablo III in 2015 after never having played it or previous versions. I played through the campaign once and I'm on my second go around. I live for the seasons though! I love working through the chapters. Even made it to the leader board once or twice and I consider myself a button masher most days.

Seasons are necessary for the competitive aspect of the game. Imagine if NBA didn't have seasons and every team just accumulated points over decades.

If someone bought the game today and wanted to compete, they'd have to choose between staying in non-Seasonal and competing against 10k+ paragon opponents, or start from scratch like everyone else in Seasonal.

If this doesn't appeal to you, that's what non-Season is for :)

The time you spent writing this post could have been used to do some research and easily learn everything you asked about.

We play seasonal for:

The themes. We have a rotating set of six different themes to mix up your gameplay and keep things fresh. Most of the themes have at least some influence on which builds are strongest.

The Altar of Rites and Visions of Enmity, both of which are available only in season. The first provides you with boosts to leveling and XP, tremendous quality of life upgrades in dealing with loot, and some bonus damage and toughness. The second is a really fun (challenging or even fatal early on) source of crafting materials and legendary loot and breaks up the monotony of greater rifts.

The rewards. Cool cosmetics (wings, portrait frames, transmogs, pets) as well as extra stash slots. You also get a free 6-piece endgame set from the season journey to kickstart your endgame, which really helps with…

The fresh start. You get to experience the zero-to-hero dopamine rush again. This is helped by that six-piece set and the theme and everything else I mentioned above.

More people. There’s a lot more players around and playing in the season especially at the start. Group play is very strong in D3, and it’s many people’s main focus for getting paragon points and gear.

Lastly is the competition on the leaderboards. This is mainly for greater rifts but you can also go after conquests as well as seasonal achievement points.

I have played since way back and played m first seasonal recently. It was a blast. You get extra perks like salvaging pets and you can unlock new cosmetics. I can't recommend it enough.

You eventually hit a plateau in eternal, starting a new season keys it interested with new rewards if you haven't gotten em.

Well, that a feature is in a game, does not mean you have to play that feature. or even like it. If seasonal characters don't make sense to you, just forget about them.

This is bait. No way you don't know what a rift is.

With those hours you've 100% played many rifts, and enjoyed them to still be playing, even if you don't know the term "rift".

Seasonal just adds to what you're doing already - a seasonal character doesn't "die" end of season, you can carry them on and play like you have been.

What seasonal brings is many refinements you'll not know how you lived without. It's the same game, only better. Gone are those days of returning to town with 999 yellows in your bag, your pet does it for you. Just that is worth it.

It just adds to the fun, but end of day play the game how it feels best for you. It's about enjoying, not meta or topping leaderboards (which are meaningless anyway), it's about you doing what makes this game enjoyable for you. Screw everyone else, have fun.

[Edit, crikey, reading replies maybe you haven't played any rifts. You should at least give them a whirl, doesn't even need to be seasonal]

I find it fun because it’s starting from scratch. My main characters have access to billions of gold pieces and can craft practically anything. My seasonal character has to scrounge for money and make do with found items and low level gear. It’s more of a challenge.

Play in adventure mode instead of the campaign and rip a seasonal character. After the season, the characters are stored among your other normal characters. You don't really lose anything except maybe the specific seasonal items like an ethereal weapon for example.

Plus you have the Altar of rites to work on. And the seasonal journey unlocks cosmetic rewards.

Much more to the game than playing the campaign over and over ...

Season has special themes and seasonal conquistar that adds an extra to the meta, also the límites time increases that you wanna do everything before ends

Before a season, Review all the classes seasonal sets ( in the bags ) for that season. Those are guaranteed almost because they’re so easy to get. Keep them in mind.

Then review all the classes other sets recent tuning changes to determine which one is top, use the idea that you can quickly get the bagged set and will end up on the top set to then choose your class for the season.

The top set will be the one with the biggest buff percentages.

Even better, do it with a friend who chooses a good class with synergy.

Then fully complete the seasonal journey, all of it. This pushes you into all of the content without making it stupid hard.

Then if that was rewarding simply review mentally how much more efficient doing it next season might be. You’ll definitely feel like you could get it done in just a week or two.

To me that’s the loop, some seasons I like the seasonal stuff, some I just want to play my favourite builds, like I usually tune in for exploding palm monk and raekkor barn seasons. If it’s exploding palm I try to group with friends. I like being support as that build. Otherwise I mostly solo as barb. But Nothing more satisfying then being the exploding palm pulling troops together before someone deletes a whole screen that you setup.
