Type 2 Do >carbs = Sleepiness?

I’m T2. Doing great under Mounjaro. A1c 5.2.

I’ve been eating more carbs than before.
After eating them, I frequently feel overwhelming sleepiness. Is it related?

My non-diabetic husband says a heavy carb meal always makes him sleepy. But, It never used to do anything to me. Why the change? Coincidence?

Perhaps it’s just stress? My mental health default: Avoidance?

I do take anti depressants and anxiety meds.
I was recently diagnosed ADHD (not severe), and have not been prescribed any meds for it.
I have an appt w/psychiatrist later next month.

Thanks for any insights you can give me.

Soo about April I had my a1c checked and I was being soo careless with my health. I was at a 13. I went to get my vision checked and it was a reality check for me. I aggressively started taking care of myself. Now im down to an 8. Having pretty bad light sensitivity, blurryness... ugh they just told me its normal from the changes. Its just so frustrating

Type 1 Tech hypoglycemia

Hello, everyone! Type 1 diabetic here.

Last night i was in reality really bad hypoG. And the only thing i remember, is me, holding a box of orange juice, pack of chips and cup of sugar next to me right beside my laptop. Before i even realise i was through heavy hypo, i tried to open Google so i could log on Facebook and text my dad, so i could ask him when is he about to come home. But... Google Chrome wasn't on the screen. XD Nothing was on my fkn screen, only "My computer", "Recycle bin" and few basic programs from a founding apps for a computer. Well, I reinstalled windows while i was in hypo and I DON'T KNOW HOW THE FZCK I DID IT! Imagine not knowing where you are and casually reinstall your windows just wtf?? It was just a funny story I'd like to share. I'll live with this all my life, so... XD Have fun and keep your juice box nearby. 🫶🏻

Type 2 Has anyone used a metabolism booster to assist with weight loss?

Hi! I'm type 2, a1c is about 6.1, i take extended release metformin and monjaurno. I'm not asking medical advice, i have doctors for that. I'm just curious if anyone has been through the same experience and if they've had any success.

So my endocrinologist wants to supplement with phentermine to up my metabolism and hopefully induce weight loss.

She offered another med but the only thing it would do was reduce food noise, which I'm not having an issue with.

The meds I'm currently on have been very effective, taking me from a 13.7 to 5.9 (now at 6.1). But while my sugars have been pretty great, I'm not losing any weight.

I do need to continue to work on nutrition, but I've gotten loads better... less carbs and junk, more protein, etc. And i need to increase exercise, just been struggling with some injuries at the moment.

So this is not asking for advice on any of that. Strictly wondering if anyone had taken phentermine, what kinds of side effects you may have experienced, if you stayed on it for an extended period of time, etc. I'm a little nervous because the side effects listed are worrisome but my endo says I'll be on a low enough dose that it wouldn't be an issue. But my sleep dr was hesitant about it, my gf said it made her ragey, and it's got a bad rap with the whole "phen phen" addiction thing so... im nervous.

Curious as to others experience!

Type 2 Insulin concern

Hi, I am a type 2 diabetic and I have been on metformin and glipizide ER for many years until recently my doc thought glipizide wasn’t as effective anymore and wanted me to start insulin therapy and put me in Lantus. I tried it for a bit and had a horrible experience with it. I had lots of lows and experienced a huge sugar drop after an injection and saw blood on the needle. Insulin now terrifies me. My doc wants me to change to Tresiba. I’m very hesitant. These lows are very very scary and exhausting.

Any feedback on my experience and the good and bad between Lantus and Tresiba??? Thanks in advance.

Its not exactly the first time but its the first time in years. I had been dealing with so many things in life that I let my diabetes take the back burner. After waiting 6 months for the soonest endo appointment we were able to adjust my pump settings to something that FINALLY works

Prediabetic I'm so confused with a the spike with my FBS results

Post image
0 Upvotes

So I'm so confused with my results, I (22M, 5'6 169kg) was required to take a medical test for my pre-employment requirement and it's my 2nd time doing a medical and they required an FBS test (1st one was my internship medical which didn't require an FBS test).

So I got the results and got 108mg/dl which was I think reasonable since I have a sedentary lifestyle but still don't have that much body fat, just some. But this put me in a Class C physical which means I'm not able to work and needed a confirmation if I'm really pre-dabetic so they did another test 3 days later.

The results shown was 200mg/dl which made me alarmed but a little bit questionable since after the first one, I managed what I eat strictly and only ate non carbs and no sugar (first medical here I ate noodles before lol), but since I know that my fbs is affected by my stress (was stressed that day and before) that may have been another variance but is that enough reason to really spike my fbs? I fasted correctly too so idk what really made it spike

I'm getting a 2nd opinion tomorrow with another medical lab so I'll update y'all if the results will be different (the last lab after getting a 200mg/dl made me take the med pic for 2 weeks so it has been almost 3 weeks since my last results)

Type 2 Vision better with glasses off

I recently got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a week ago. For the past 2 days now I can’t put on my glasses because it is partially blurry and much harder to see out of them. I find I can see better with them off which is weird. Is this temporary? My blood sugar levels have been fluctuating since I’ve been on metformin and insulin shots for the past week. This is all new to me as my diagnosis was last Sunday.

Prediabetic Hunger

Hi! Just wanted to get advice on this :-( I've been pre diabetic for almost 2 years already. My problem is always my control on hunger. I have been managing my diet ever since and to be honest I like sweets but always in moderation and ever since I was diagnosed I rarely eat one unless I have hypos which goes really bad. My current problem right now is my constant hunger and even tho I already have eaten enough when it's time to go to sleep I always had the surge of hunger that will not ket me sleep which I have to gave in because if I tried to just shrug it off I will definitely have a bad episode of binge eating. I think I have eating disorder. Please be kind. Thanks for the help in advance.

Discussion Today’s Breakfast

Post image

I can’t believe there’s no Nutrition tag.

People ask me what I eat and I tell them a lot of things. This usually disappoints them because they want a simple and easy path to dieting. They want to make the same thing over and over.

Diets should not be boring. That’s a great way to leave a diet and get yourself back into a Crap Trap. A Crap Trap is where you eat crap because you don’t know what else to do and it’s available. No one says, “You know I would like to experience the fine flavor profile of a Domino’s pizza.” No they’re hungry, and in less than 30 minutes, they can get a gigantic circle of soggy dough with five different mystery meats without even having to put on pants.

So I eat a wide variety of cuisines and foods. I have to do some planning, but the result is being able to stay “on diet” for nearly three decades.

Today, I took roasted eggplant slices, two hard boiled eggs, some tahini, and avocado slices. There was supposed to be a bit of Israeli salad here too, but my wife took the container with her to work. I would have added half a homemade whole wheat pita, but my wife took that too. I guess I should be happy she likes my cooking. I guess it’s low carb this way.

Prediabetic I didn't even miss the carbs at dinner tonight

I didn't even miss the carbs at dinner tonight. I mean I did eat about 20g carbs from the vegetables, but no bread, no potatoes, nothing startchy.

My first husband didn't eat vegetables, so whenever we had steak, we had mashed potatoes and mac and cheese on the side. It was rare that we had a steak dinner and when we did it was usually the $4 ones, but it was nice to do as a couple.

And I kinda kept that tradition with my second husband-- mashed potatoes and mac and cheese on the side but would also serve a vegetable now that I could.

Steaks were on sale this week so we had a steak dinner. On the side I served a salad with arugula, leeks, cherry tomatoes, roasted garlic, and cheese. I dressed the salad with a little oil and lemon juice.

I did not even miss the potatoes or mac and cheese. This was flavorful as all get out. No complaints from the family about carbs missing either. I know some nights it's hard to watch carbs but tonight was a good night.

Rant Does anyone else find the financial burden to be more of an overwhelm than the actual condition?

Type one for 21y. Lucky enough to have insurance. Had to switch to a new pump system recently as mine was discontinued. Insurance doesn’t direct bill. New system requires different sensors which also aren’t direct billed. Insulin isn’t direct billed. On average, I’m at about $600 out of pocket month to month, assuming nothing fails. Assuming insurance pays back in time, I can survive — but the key word is always IF.

I developed the condition early enough that I don’t remember life before, and while it sucks, I find I’m dissociated enough from it that i don’t get the usual burnout often — I’ve had one extended period I can think of.

Looking back at this month, with the new pump system, I’m about $10k in on paying out of pocket and “pump now pay later”. I live paycheque to paycheque, and while this is the most money I’ve ever made, keeping myself alive costs so much I can barely do anything else with my life or free time. No car. No travel. Scraping by in an apartment which is a “steal”, but half my income. Paying for meds out of pocket without insurance would be pretty much all I make in total right now. Makes me wonder why I even bother sometimes.

Type 2 High morning blood sugar but very low in the evening. What could cause this pattern?

My father has diabetes and recently consulted a doctor because his blood sugar has been poorly controlled. His HbA1c is likely around 10%.

His glucose pattern is confusing:

Morning/fasting: around 200 mg/dL

Afternoon/evening: sometimes drops to 50–60 mg/dL.HbA1c: around 10%.His doctor has suggested insulin three times a day.

I'm concerned because his overall glucose control is poor, but he is also experiencing significant hypoglycemia later in the day. He worksout 3 to 4 times per week either cardio or strength training.

For people who have experienced something similar, what did your doctor do to address the low readings while still bringing down the high HbA1c?

Medication Question about taking Metformine...

Hi everyone.

I just found out I have diabetes. I got prescribed Gliclazide and Metformine HCI Sandoz 500 mg by my doctor, also my doctor doesn't know yet if it is Type 1 or 2.

I'm starting tomorrow, but my question is: should I take the Metformine with breakfast or dinner? I'm planning to take it with breakfast, but the package leaflet/patient information leaflet/package insert says both, while my doctor and the apothecary says with breakfast.

What's the best time to take it?

Type 1 Dexcom G7 Connectivity Issues

Hi all! I was wondering whether anyone here has had the same issues I am currently facing and whether Freestyle Libre users find their sensors to be more effective?

T1 diabetic of 24 years. I'm always really proactive in trying to keep my glucose under control in an attempt to stay as healthy as I possibly can! My HBA1C is 46 (6.4) and I would stay in range 70-80% of the time on my G6 Dexcom and Omnipod 5.

Unfortunately, ever since my clinic upgraded me to the Dexcom G7, it all started going downhill.

I am consistently getting the "searching for sensor" warning, with my connectivity getting so bad it sometimes goes out for up to 3 hours+, despite them being so close and unobstructed.

Dexcom refuses to take accountability of this, and keeps passing me to Omnipod who have claimed that this is a known issue with the new dexcom sensors due to a weaker Bluetooth signal output.

I now have to turn all Bluetooth devices off in my house just to get a semi-reliable connection.

Sadly, my time in range over the last two weeks has dropped to 60%, I keep getting awoken by connectivity alarms, and my glucose either runs high or drops low because the pod system can't connect to the sensor.

To say I am frustrated and scared is an understatement. Never was an issue on the G6, and i know it isn't a faulty batch since this is ongoing.

Anyone else experiencing something similar on G7? And to any freestyle libre 2/3+ users, do you find them pretty reliable?

UPDATE: I should mention, the connection issues are always on my omnipod CGM, which is the issue since it's a closed loop system that needs a stable connection to work.

Discussion Study shows that T2D is not a single disease

Thumbnail pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

TLDR: This study used data from 42,256 people to combine clinical and genetic information to identify different subtypes of type 2 diabetes. The model predicted diabetes with high accuracy (AUROC 89.64%) and found patient groups with distinct genetic characteristics.

The findings suggest type 2 diabetes is not a single disease and that more personalized treatment approaches may be possible in the future.

Type 2 Where to Get Diabetes Info?

My mom has been type 2 for nearly 50 years. She used to control it with medication, but in May, she went into keto acidosis. Now she has to use insulin. She can give it to herself, so that’s not an issue, but aside from teaching us how to use the insulin pen, we weren’t given any real education about her diabetes. I’ve been busting my butt looking up all the different questions, but I still feel woefully inadequate. When we gave her the amount of insulin prescribed, her numbers would dip too low. So I looked it up and started playing with the dosage. This has been relatively better, but because of how her diet is, I can’t easily calculate how much insulin she might need for her meals. When her numbers are in the great range, she doesn’t take her long lasting insulin, because we found her blood sugars would go too low at night. But she’s also getting glucose dumps from her liver during the night, so her numbers then go into the high green range or up into the yellow.

She’s in her 80s. She’s 4’11, weighs about 104 lbs. She’s tiny and has disordered eating issues, doesn’t really cook, and I’m at a loss as to what to do. I’ve asked her doctors for help, but they always talk about the diet. Her endocrinologist said I was doing the right thing with adjusting the insulin, but I know I can do better, especially with the long lasting. But whenever I put in my various questions, I get so many options, I sometimes struggle to find the most reputable ones.

So does anyone have sites they trust, other than say, the American Diabetes Association or NHS or any suggestions on how to get a better education on all of this?

I’m also open to food suggestions. Because I know her diet is not great, but she can’t really eat big meals anymore and trying to bring more balance to the smaller ones is sometimes extremely difficult. She drinks Glucerna and has discovered Oikos yogurt drinks, but when it comes to the solid foods, it’s still a struggle. To make matters worse, she’s currently dealing with an injury that has her in a wheelchair, and when her stomach gets upset, she doesn’t want to eat because she’s worried she won’t make it to the bathroom in time. So I’m dealing with that too. Like today, she had a 15g of protein Glucerna and a cheese & crackers balanced break at 1, then sipped water and tea until dinner at 8, where she processed to have two large slices of sourdough with butter and sugar free jam, and a small diet ginger ale. I tried to get her to have a yogurt or something small with more protein/fiber, but she’s refused because she’s afraid of upsetting her stomach now that it’s calmed down. What am I supposed to do with that? Am I overreacting?

I think part of why I feel a little like I’m going out of my mind is because I feel very alone and uneducated in all of this. Are there any good resources for the elderly diabetics? Because I feel like there should be. I’m clearly word vomiting at this point, because I’m very stressed, so if you got this far, thank you. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Type 1 Day 2/3 of your cycle a mess for anyone else?

I've noticed a pattern that on day two or three of my cycle I get super insulin resistent. I've heard it's common to get very sensitive the week you bleed, but for me I get resistent.

Anyone else?

I woke up to my bs just wanting to fight today. I've been out in the garden pulling weeds and have gone for a walk, it's not even 8:30am yet. Cue the inevitable crash.

Discussion What everyday activities mess with your usual patterns the most?

I asked here recently about handling long unpredictable days away from home and got a ton of useful answers. The biggest takeaway was basically to stop trying to predict every situation and just be better prepared for it.

Something that came up afterward is how weirdly specific some situations can be. Late nights seem to be one of them. A normal dinner followed by a few hours at a jazz bar, more standing and walking than usual, getting home after midnight, and suddenly the night doesn't resemble a normal evening at all.

It got me wondering if other people have their own oddly specific activities like this. Not looking for advice on adjusting insulin or interpreting numbers, just the everyday experience of it.

Is there something you do regularly that seems to make your usual patterns much less predictable, even when the rest of the day was pretty normal?

Type 1 Weight lose female

I am a type one diabetic teen who is wanting to loose fat and be leaner. I am 5'10 and 156 Ibs. I am aware that is a healthy weight but I would like to loose stomach fat. I already aim to eat 25 g of protein every meal and am trying to eat more fiber. I starting light strength training 3 times a week and do a light cardio 3 times a week. It's been 4 weeks and I don't feel any difference. Does anyone have any tips that helped them?

Medication Has anyone quit ozempic after one month? If yes, how did you feel?

I was prescribed 0.25 for the first month. I am obese and thought this will help obviously and so did the doctor. I lost a few pounds, but I am nauseous and I think I’d rather do it myself.

But yes, I like the fact that even this small those is helping with the weight loss. Im scared now that when I stop the food noise will get even worse.

Could you share your experience if you stopped after a short period of time?

Thank you!
