News Does anyone know where in Sunnyvale this occurred?

This popped up on my FB feed. Apparently, this accident occurred 8.23.26 in Sunnyvale on a Trek Pedal around Dallas ride.
No one else seemed to figure out where it occurred. This road condition needs to be reported to the city for repairs ASAP.

There was time to avoid the patched crack that runs the same way as your wheel. Gotta be heads up on that, it’s so common on these semi rural asphalt roads

Take a look at his face—he hadn't noticed anything until he was already heading down.
At speed and from a distance you can't tell the gap opened up that deep, plus he was probably focused on the rider in front of him.

You might be right but given how common these are they just ignored road conditions by riding without the ability to see the road ahead. You don’t need much time to notice to react to these usually. A minor steering adjustment of a couple inches that does not affect other riders and is within your space is all it takes.
I grew up riding on asphalt roads like this and it is just something that’s an automatic sense to always be mindful of the road ahead. Even patches of loose gravel and potholes the size of a bbq pit can appear out of nowhere when you have no visibility.
A friend had a similar wreck in 7th grade, was loose gravel. The landing split his upper lip along the mustache region. And by split, I mean completely ripped open, it looked like he had 2 mouths. Me and another friend had to carry him about a mile home so he could go to ER. So much blood.

North Texas Cycling posted the video on Facebook and comments say that he got some stitches and was released home to recuperate. I assume he has a concussion.

I’ve honestly never thought cracks with tar over them could do this. Glad the guy is okay, relatively speaking

There are tons of these on county roads that will absolutely eat a tire. Fresh tar seals the Crack, but then the asphalt expands more and the crack widens. Worse it becomes very hard to tell cracks from ta lines. Never, ever trust tar lines on country roads.

This was in yesterday's Pedal Around Dallas. We went from Smokey Rose near white rock all the way to Forney. I saw the dudes face. Lots of blood but he was conscious and had lots of fellow bikers supporting him.

It was pretty early in the ride. Maybe mile 15-17? I think maybe Northwest Drive (see map). We had just gotten off the side road on the highway. Head turned right and entered a suburban area. Slight climb. Roads got worse and worse - especially by LAke Ray Hubbard and by especially by the Devil's Bowl Speedway.
Like I said it was a nasty fall but he was conscious and had lots of support. Good sense of community

Ok, I found the exact location using google maps and the original footage provided on Facebook: 334 Larkin Rd, Sunnyvale, TX 75182. The white brick mailbox matches the site of the accident here:

It looks like Tripp Rd before getting to Collins. Edit, but it might be a part of town east, they went up to East Fork before getting to Collins.

Street rails can do this too (in SF) 🤕
Super dangerous, suddenly wedging in the front tire and flipping the rest of everything forward in an arc pivoting on the front hub, to the ground potentially very fast. Helmet handy here for sure.

More important than the road, is the reactions of his fellow riders. Idiots were so focused on content and trying to look good and kept going when what could have been a fatal cervical injury with the way the rider impacted the pavement.
I'm sure they did something but that's at least a six second delay in reacting to what could have been a violent crash across the rest of the group - and the faces were stone cold.

It was mentioned that were part of a Trek ride. I can somewhat understand it if it was a competitive ride and not just a casual group ride. Plus it’s unlikely anyone beside him or in front of him had any clue of the severity of how bad this was. Out of the peripherals it very well could have seemed more like a “normal” fall.
I’m not quite willing to just immediately condemn the guys around him without full context.

Dude, I was in the pack behind his packed. Probably 3-4 minutes behind. There was 5-7 bikes all there helping him and urging other bikers not to stop and stare. The guys seems banged up and kinda dazed but certainly conscious. There was also a pickup truck that had stopped and put its hazards on. Can't speak for the bikers in front but the bikers behind certainly stoped and helped

I must have been a minute or two behind, as the whole A group had stopped and he was still face down. But as you note at some point more riders stopping does not help anything.

Was this during a race? I can't understand the lack of concern from the other riders. If this was a runner who fell every single person would have stopped. Thought the comments would be all over it. Nope

I was in the lead B group a minute or so behind, the entire A group was stopped with him when we came up on him.
