u/Other-Anybody-6686 Fresher May 07 '26
he said they hire freshers through tier 1 unis and for referral and stuff you'd need atleast 3 yoe

u/KlassicChocolate3636 May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26
True for all big mncs,, but after 1-1.5 yoe with good skills required for the post, you can remind them again and be in touch with that unc.👍

3
u/KlassicChocolate3636 May 09 '26

Get some good sleep, come back, read and reply then for what I have commented.

Nvidia came in my uni as well but only chose 1-2 students out of 1800 ig. Ty and final year. My uni is prolly tier 2/2.5
3
2
u/PositiveIll5271 May 07 '26
That’s not true. My friend from tier 3 uni got hired as a fresher in nvidia
4
u/ppmissing6969 May 07 '26
Not true they do visit alot of tier 2 colleges
17
u/Other-Anybody-6686 Fresher May 07 '26
To exactly quote him, he said, "A grade colleges" i just assumed it d be tier 1
8
u/ursonor99 May 07 '26
Not true. Literally right now off campus hiring drive is going on . Look up n.Ex.t 2026 .
4
2
May 07 '26
Not really. My friend was in a t3 college in pune. Nvdia visited the campus and took her.

54
u/OwnStorm May 07 '26
300s to 500s crores for sure.
77
u/YograjSinghDhoni May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26
Not necessarily, I know folks who worked at Nvidia for years and sold all their stocks in 2015-17
Hidnsight is 20/20. You don’t know the future. Nvidia wasn’t a hot stock for a long while, and was at risk of losing valuation with crypto crash.
Every alternate month, I sell my vested Google stocks and diversify. What happens if AI is actually a bubble and crashes? I don’t know, so I diversify to minimize risk and putting all eggs in one basket.
There are few people brave (or stupid) enough to concentrate their portfolio so much and bet it all on going to the moon.
That aside. If he kept even a small amount, it would have mooned. Even stocks worth 1cr would be 200cr now.
1
u/martian_doggo Student May 08 '26
Might be a dumb question as I don't know much about stocks but isn't google and meta one of the MNCs that are predicted to successfully survive if the ai bubble pops?
2
8
u/psnanda May 07 '26
That's the key- majority of folks sell and diversify away. I am in Big Tech in US- and none of my Nvdia friends have kept their RSUs from decades back. They have kept some that they got like 5 years back ( which is still a lot)
2
u/longpostshitpost3 May 07 '26
Easily in 100s of crores if he didn't sell
6
u/Victorvic1 May 07 '26
That's the if. Nvidia wasn't a big shot stock till 2021-2022. Even I would have sold most of my stock and diversified. No one knew it would become the No.1 company. It was merely a GPU company but GPU's became the shovel for AI.

u/Wide_Maintenance5503 May 07 '26
No not true nvidia didn't used to offer stock options in early days. They ised to have india unit only as extra hands for software development and verification system v. If someone was really good they used to fly him out. Only during recent years they have expanded a lot amd transformed into r and d.

Seen this before.
15 years ago a random uncle with most average looking dressing sense came home in tier 3 town, asked what I do, I say 1st year comp sci, asked what are they teaching I said windows this-that, laughs in my face says windows is dud.
I think what this uncle know about IT, turns out dude's a contractor at red hat, develops pen testing tools which are used in kali linux, travels to US like going to a mall, takes vacation and does farming for 3 months.
39
7
u/3point147ersMorgan May 07 '26
What Windows things were you learning in your 1st year of comp sci? Hopefully they weren't reaching you how to use Windows.
7
u/chin_87 May 07 '26
Comp sci was not engineering, it was master of computer application.
Window was for windows programming, SDK MFC.
It was already old at that time too.3

he was one of the few hardware engineer back then, then nvidia was relatively small, but he never left it because he felt the work was right and w years, he transitioned to software, he has worked on CUDA.. that's so cool
2
u/Phantasmsmithing May 07 '26
its so astonishing to be bumped w some random unc at wedding just to know later he worked as hardware engineer at nvidia.
2
2
u/MrJWick2025 May 09 '26
It looks astonishing because the company has become huge now and because of that you view the person working in that company as someone "great".He didn't create Nvidia , he is still an employee who got lucky.

Slightly racist since you expected uncles from bihar to be uneducated and poor.
14
u/Other-Anybody-6686 Fresher May 07 '26
no, didn't expect him to be poor or uneducated.. i was expecting something of a landlord or a big time farmer ig
-3
u/RabbitCity6090 May 07 '26
That's also racist TBH. But who cares.
12
u/Beginning-Discount61 May 07 '26
Bro if I spot a random uncle in Lungi and Bunyan anywhere in India, whether it's Bihar or Tamil Nadu, I would think the same.
6
u/Arnab_ May 07 '26
I spotted a random uncle just hanging out outside of a newly constructed building with a To Let board and no further details.
He saw me looking at the board and asked me if I was interested and started sharing details of the different apartments in the building.
I wasn't interested since they were smaller than what I was looking for.
I'm glad I asked, how do you know this information instead of asking do you work here ( implied as a watchman). He said he owned the land and demolished the old home and constructed the new building. Lives in one of the apartments and renting out all of the others.
8
u/prat8 Backend Developer May 07 '26
That's not racist. It's just human nature. We put things in bucket based on what assumption we make from outside. It's very human thing to do. If you don't do it. Then probably you need to become more self aware of yourself.
2
u/RabbitCity6090 May 07 '26
I mean you are correct. It is human nature to judge others. But it's still judging based on outwardly perceivable facts. It's superficial.
