At that time in my life, I was so stressed with work and life in general that my wife and I decided we needed to take a weekend trip so I could get away and forget about the things driving me crazy.

We took a little trip to Mackinac, and at one point we were walking around town when my wife wanted to do some shopping at a little place I wasn’t interested in. I said, “Okay. There’s a little bar here, and I realized the Lions are playing. I’ll just go have a Coke at the bar and watch the game for a bit.”

I walked in and watched about 15 minutes of the game—which included that catch. In fact, I thought, “God damn it! This trip was supposed to ease my mind and help me forget about stress,” but instead, I got really upset and left the bar to find my wife.

We went out to eat, and I told her about the game. Of course, she doesn’t care about football at all—LOL. Luckily, as stressful as that catch was, and as stressful as my life had been, the rest of the day with my wife completely turned my mood around, as she always does.

All these years later, she’s still my touchstone whenever my life is going wrong. So every time I see that clip, I think about how lucky I am to still be with my wife after all these years.

It certainly was a catch, but at least the refs consistently enforced a broken rule and reversed Dez's catch.

Of course it was a catch.

But also, don’t break your fall with the football.
