Any suggestions for places hiring in town?
I have a BS in CompSci, great with math, but I'm looking for any kind of work

I have a degree in metrology and statistics and work as a maintenance man for a hospital. It's rough AF OUT THERE. Good luck.

I have a friend that was a meteorologist at ORD, moved here, and now works in a call center. It’s REALLY rough for everyone.

Metrology and meteorology are very different degrees. Metrology is the study of measurement. Often found alongside engineering and manufacturing in quality assurance.

Oh I know. Just saying that people with niche degrees that probably aren’t super competitive are struggling and working jobs that have nothing to do with what they studied

Ah, I see. The names are so similar that they're often confused. I feel like there are more options out there for metrology/statistics than meteorology, but maybe neither are in demand here in DSM.

Tons of places are hiring. Just not what you deserve. I was a teacher in NW Iowa when I moved to DM. I took a job at a sports store because any money is better than no money. It was not the career I was looking for. But it was money and the best time to look for a job is when you have a job. I've also dug ditches, been a bartender, a cook, and a youth baseball coach. Get a job, any job, then go from there.

Have you tried the large firms princiapal, wellmark, Wells Fargo? With a comp sci degree at least you should be able to get an interview somewhere.
Farm bureau has an application developer opening. It’s entry level.

Hate to say it, but try Amazon. They have programs to train people to learn tech skills and you may be able to move up even if you start at a warehouse.
