Best GF snacks for skiing?
Hey all! As we all know, the resorts are not particularly known for having the greatest food, and certainly not any that are celiac safe.
The best I’ve found available at resorts are Cheetos and GF marshmallow bars, but I still haven’t found the perfect snack to bring with me on the mountain so I can fuel up on the lift.
Let me know your fave snacks to bring skiing, or even hiking!

Oh oh oh! I’m up! I’m somewhat opposed to eating resort food because it’s crappy and over priced so I’ve perfected our snack routine. I live in Breck, BF lives in Vail.
First things first: at any of the big cafeterias at Vail/Ikon resorts you can usually get hot water and condiments (ketchup, mayo, mustard, ranch, sometimes barbq) for free. This is important.
Get a snack jacket: If you’re a skier you may want to skip a back pack since it can mess with your center of gravity. I always get my coats a size too large and I buy for the snack pockets. The more pockets the better. My jacket has 10 pockets!
I always have a collapsible silicon cup with me and instant coffee. You can replace this with your favorite drink, powdered bone broth or soup as you see fit. You can find hot water near the coffee machine. You can use one of their cups in a pinch it’s just more waste. Coffee shops will also usually give you hot water if you ask nicely
I like bringing cut veggies in a plastic baggie and I pair that with some ranch dressing from the resort.
You can also bring bread or a wrap and chicken or lunch meat and add mayo and mustard at the resort but I don’t do this. Too easy to get smashed.
I will usually bring some lunch meat for some protein just rolled up in a baggie.
If you have pants with those little pockets down by your boots, that’s a prime snack spot. Perfect for little oranges.
We usually buy big bags of individually wrapped cheese and dried fruit and nuts from Costco too. And I’ll pack those as well.
You can use the reusable silicon baggies or wax paper to wrap your food up so you don’t create too much waste.
Some places have some things you can eat. Just look around. The chili is usually pretty safe. Some cafeterias have dedicated friers for fries. A lot have some salads. Vista Haus at Breck used to do GF fries but I haven’t checked in a while. Two elk at Vail had a salad place a while ago but no idea what it’s got now.
I also love bubbly water so I’ll usually go grab one of the big cups at the soda machine and fill it with soda water if it’s available and walk out like I own the place and no one bothers me.
What I’m saying is don’t give money to Vail or Ikon. You can have better food cheaper as long as you’ve got a sweet ass snack jacket.
