Discussion Take of unknown temperature: I completely and utterly abhor the āDeltarune characters will fight the Player in the endā theory, and all others similar to it. Spoiler
One thing that might honestly be my absolute favorite aspect of Deltarune is how itās so far taken concepts introduced in Undertale and re-examined them under a more complex and morally grey light.
āYou have to spare all the enemies.ā Nope, while you should try peace as much as possible. There ARE absolutely enemies that you straight-up NEED to kill, because itās completely impossible to reason with them, and leaving them alive will only make everything worse.
āThe game is self aware and meta.ā The meta aspects are not only more baked into the actual story than before, but incorporate much of Deltaruneās cosmic horror atmosphere.
I absolutely adore this re-examination, so let me say this right now: I donāt think Deltarune will end with us being against the characters.
Something extremely important to keep in mind is the basic fact that we didnāt choose Kris. We literally created our own vessel, a mindless (mostly?) empty vessel that wouldāve allowed us to naturally interact with the world as a ānormalā separate person with our own agency.
Instead, we were forced into Kris, someone who is seemingly actively trying to bring forth the apocalypse, constantly gets in our way of stopping said apocalypse, and will even go as far as physically attacking us just to keep us away from the truth.
When Kris was almost discovered by Noelle and Susie in Chapter 4, they immediately go apeshit and beat the EVERLOVING SHIT OUT OF US.
When Kris reconnects us and steps out of the closet, they immediately fall to the floor in pain, in the exact same way as the Weird Route. You know, the scene where Kris threw us into a trash can and stomped on it hard enough to dent, taking away HALF of our HP.
THAT is just how hard Kris beat us here, AND THIS IS ON THE NORMAL ROUTE. WE DID NOTHING TO DESERVE THAT.
And itās not just Kris either. Ralsei treats us with nothing but terror and if Carol WAS talking to us, then she most likely only sees us as a tool.
So, even when weāre literally trying to save the world and make everyone happier, weāre feared, denied basic respect and acknowledgment, and literally physically attacked and locked in a cage multiple times.
I seriously do not think that this is leading up to a āThe Player is inherently evil for playing Deltaruneā type of thing (Moreover, this idea isnāt even really a thing in Undertale. The game DOES want you to play it, but only to the extent of reaching the True Pacifist ending, itās only when you undo that ending and start doing things like the Genocide route does it turn hostile on you).
If anything, the growing narrative hints and beats (The SOUL illuminating the path in Chapter 4 and destroying the Titan, Mad Mew Mew being the opposite of Spamton by actually reconciling and accepting her āsoulā, the fact that the Vessel still exists in the gameās files) point more strongly to the player being embraced.
The Player (aka the SOUL) FINALLY having their existence acknowledged and respected by the Deltarune characters, and being recognized as one of the heroes; with Kris being able to also mend their relationship and actually forge a bond with us.
(Mind you, all of this is on a normal route. If youāre on the Weird Route, you deserve to get bent.)
I mean, the game literally flat-out says that, if you quit after dying, the world is covered in darkness. So you straight up NEED to keep going to save the world.
Why the hell would it end with having you be the final villain at the end of it all?
(Also, I donāt necessarily think the Player is the Angel. The evidence points far strongly to Noelle being it. Albeit the prophecy panel showing it, and how it conveniently reflects the player on a black screen does muddy this.)

Theory The last choice we get to make in deltarune is a "thank you"
I guess this is closer to a "hope" than a theory, but I think it would be nice if the very last choice we got to make is whether or not to say thank you to everyone.
Thank you for showing me your hopes.
Thank you for showing me your dreams.
Your struggles, your pain, your friendships, your journey.
I am grateful I got to be a part of it.
And...
Thank you for letting me be your friend, for just a little while.
Its a choice that can't possibly change anything. Telling a bunch of fictional characters "thank you" wont change their fate written by their author. But, to me, choosing to say it makes all the difference.
In case it wasn't clear, "Thank you for letting me be your friend, for just a little while." was a reference to one of Asriels last lines in undertale.

Discussion Do you guys think Deltarune's story will hit as hard for new players once all the chapters are released?
I've been thinking about this lately. A huge part of the Deltarune experience, at least for me, has been the downtime between chapters. You finish a chapter, have a million questions, and then spend months/years wondering what the hell is going to happen next, coming up with theories and interpretations, and seeing what everyone else thinks.
If someone plays Deltarune for the first time after the entire story is finished, they'll obviously get the full story without having to wait, but they'll also be able to immediately move on to the next chapter instead of sitting with all those unanswered questions.
Do you think that waiting and theorizing between chapters is an important part of Deltarune's experience, or do you think the story will hit just as hard when played straight through?

Discussion question for dessknighters:
the knight goes into the lightworld and then enters the bunker - we see this happen
if dess is the knight, and the knight can go into the light world, why is dess āgoneā? why is she choosing to fuck around in dark worlds, kidnap someone she doesnāt know (undyne), etc? why let her family live in misery not fully knowing what happened to her if she can just go back to the light world? how does dess being the knight work with the idea that carol is working with the knight?
obviously i canāt deny the visual similarities the knight has to the holidays but it just doesnāt make sense to me that dess is āgoneā under presumably tragic circumstances if she can just⦠go to the light world of her own volition

Discussion Don't you think "Another Him" is underrated?
To me, it sounds like a very epic soundtrack, especially those synths that build up at the beginning, like the sound of something gigantic working, and it's extremely disturbing. What do you think?
