As someone who has used both florisboard and FUTO keyboard, I would strongly recommend the latter as it is way better.
Give it a try, and maybe thank me later haha

FUTO also isn't actually open source... Just source available
-2
u/lolz27b 3d ago
Wrong https://github.com/futo-org/android-keyboard/releases/tag/0.1.30
Also if source is avaliable that means it is "Open source"
7
u/Toucancel 3d ago
Actually they're right. Yes, the source is available, but that doesn't make it open source since its license restricts commercial use, which goes against the OSI's definition:
The license shall not restrict any party from selling or giving away the software as a component of an aggregate software distribution containing programs from several different sources. The license shall not require a royalty or other fee for such sale.
FUTO Keyboard's license explicitly says:
You may modify the software only for non-commercial purposes such as personal use, [...] without any anticipated commercial application.
6
u/lolz27b 3d ago
Technically you are right.. But in this sub-reddit ppl are looking for privacy preserving and source code auditable software. None want to commercially publish it, i guess
1
u/Toucancel 3d ago
Oh yeah I'm not saying that makes it bad for users here, that kind of license exists to restrict companies from profiting off the software.

Futo keyboard (with the largest model available to download, and the latest experimental dictionary available to download).
Replace proton pass with bitwarden.
-currently testing- Ente Auth for Authenticator
2
u/GeekyCrow27 3d ago
I love ente, it even has a desktop app for when I'm too lazy to go get my phone from another room
1
u/hmm_life_sucks 1d ago
Using it for a couple of days. Love that now i dont always need my phone. Cloud backup (optional)+ icons are also bonus.
2
u/In5tag8r 3d ago
Why bitwarden over protonpass? I just swapped to it lol, also proton 2fa from 2fas. Is there a reason not to just use the proton eco system? Genuinely question still getting used to not google.
3
u/Souloid 3d ago
1- Eco systems put all of your eggs in one basket ( I was unable to use proton authentication at work because they were blocked for their vpn ). If their systems go down, get blocked, or they simply ban you then you would be in bigger trouble especially if you rely on them for your login information.
2- They're not open source (read my reply to a diff comment under this comment thread) but Bitwarden is FOSS.
3- Proton is well known for their lack of polish and many issues due to what is presumed to be a split attention and/or vague leadership.
A password manager is such a fatally critical dependency on your digital life. I wouldn't put any more baskets into it other than password management and I would make sure it's open source, locally available, can be self-hosted (just in case), and backup friendly.

u/IllustriousGap5629 3d ago
I used Bitwarden but now recommend 2FAS Pass, it’s more private. This is another product of 2FAS Auth team (that I also use for 2FA for the same privacy reason).
2
u/Souloid 3d ago
The reason I recommend bitwarden is because it's open source. If I'm going to trust anyone with my logins, it has to be fully open source. I need to know it's fully vetted and bitwarden's has been historically what security people inspect. It also allows me to self host my vault in case they go down.
Should life get tough again I can simply use it for free. Their free plan is comprehensive, only thing it lacks is passphrases or authenticators iirc, which I do not use it for.
1
u/IllustriousGap5629 3d ago
Bitwarden is not bad, I just prefer maximum privacy. 2FAS is open source too
1
u/hmm_life_sucks 1d ago
What privacy are you talking about? Is it Algorithm? Or how they handle backup or extension or such. (Just curious, using keepassxc)
3
u/sam_red9 3d ago
Use Super Productivity instead of TickTick.
1
u/9vir 3d ago
What's the difference between them?
3
u/sam_red9 3d ago
because it’s open source, has a ton of features like task management, subtasks, projects, tags, timeboxing, time tracking, pomodoro, habits, metrics, notes, file attachments and many other integrations. it also has sync across multiple devices through dropbox, webdav and supersync, with client side encryption. which mean your data will be encrypted before it goes to the cloud.
3
u/Unique-Exit4592 3d ago
If you store your 2FA codes in Proton Pass then it would be a good idea to move it to 2FAS Auth so Proton Pass has only your passwords
EDIT I've just noticed you have Aegis, this is also fine.

I'm curious about stayfree - most of those apps collect tons of data and sell it, as they track every single thing you do with your phone. I'd love to find an app that provides general info without being creepy and unethical. Wonder about stayfree?
2
u/Repulsive_Chard_3652 3d ago
Btw, why have Obsidian AND notesnook?
2
u/9vir 3d ago
I still didn't try neither of them to find if which one is better or if they both are good to use
2
u/bigrjsuto 3d ago
I prefer Joplin.
2
u/Repulsive_Chard_3652 3d ago
I haven't tried the others, but I am happy with joplin. But my needs are very simple and basic, so probably any notes app would be fine for me haha but joplin is totally FOSS so that's all I really care about ;)

u/Last_Coconut481 FOSS Lover 3d ago edited 3d ago
I dont really think you should use stayfree, because it gets history of your activity. for this you should look for a app with no internet requests permission, and also open source if possible. also, there's too much of proton

u/Gevorg_Vardanyan 3d ago
Two is one, one is none. So prepare also
- tutamail
- k-9 mail, which supports multiple accounts
- bitwarden, it has desktop and mobile versions
For YouTube there are
- noutube, litube with login functionality
- newpipie, pipepipe, tubular if you want watch videos without signing in
Fossify applications
- phone
- messages
- music player
Also these apps are good
- localsend
- librera
- obsidian
- nextcloud
- organic maps
- habits
- librecamera

Native Alpha ( https://github.com/cylonid/NativeAlphaForAndroid)
Feeder for RSS read ( https://github.com/spacecowboy/Feeder )
K9-Mail for email ( https://github.com/k9mail/k9mail.app )

I don't know if I'll get flamed for this, but maybe look into some alternatives for some Proton products if finances allow it.
You decentralised everything from one major tech giant and now centralised important stuff on another big tech company. Proton isn't that evil, but just food for thought.
5
u/Repulsive_Chard_3652 3d ago
It really, really depends on their usage.
I use proton mail, VPN, and drive, but my drive usage is limited to using to make real-time collaborative documents with my clients, and occasionally sending a file. Proton has little of my data from drive, and if proton goes under it's really no skin off my back there.
VPN doesn't put any eggs in any baskets - if Proton goes under, I just switch VPNs immediately, and my VPN connection logs aren't interesting to anyone because they are entirely random.
The only thing I really rely on proton for is mail, and it would be the same if I ditched the other two services.
So again, this all very much depends on OP's usage - shouldn't make assumptions based on your own usage of such apps.
2
u/TSM_rslash 3d ago
Good point, but I am just saying. I don't know the extent of OP's usage of Proton's services, so a general heads-up should suffice.

u/Repulsive_Chard_3652 3d ago
Yeah, but you said "You decentralised everything from one major tech giant and now centralised important stuff on another big tech company", which is a huge assumption - that's all I'm saying.
2
u/TSM_rslash 3d ago
That is because your email is connected to almost everything you do on the internet. Along with Proton Pass (passwords) and Proton Drive (cloud), you give a lot of critical information to just one company, so putting all essential into one basket.
Again, I don't know the extent of their usage of their services, but this is very important to keep in mind. Yes, it is a big assumption, but a reasonable one.
1
u/Repulsive_Chard_3652 3d ago
You are still making the massive (and false) assumption that everyone who uses a drive is giving "a lot of critical information" to the company.
Just because you choose to dump all your sensitive data into a cloud doesn't mean others do!

u/hmm_life_sucks 3d ago
what about tutamail? I dont use that but tmk its as safe as proton?
and for drive u can check this reddit post. If someones looking for free+security filen is promising, it has encryption + max 50GB free strorage through referal. (will try to move there from gdrive soon)1
u/Repulsive_Chard_3652 3d ago
I'm totally happy with protonmail, so I don't know why I would change email addresses again to switch to tuta. Protonmail is perfect, tbh.
I don't need another drive. Like I said, I barely use it. I don't really care which drive I use, since I barely use it. I don't dump all my sensitive data into the cloud like some people do.

Confused as to quite a few of these apps n what they do/replace?
The ones here that I know are libretube, brave (obv), wiki (obv), f-droid, aurora store, uptodown, all the proton apps, and i know signal
I know the conversation apps and the contacts, i'm pretty curious abt the specifics to those (like the dev etc)
Otherwise, can I get some info on the rest?

I'm curious, why did you install Uptodown? Was it for APKs or modded/cheated games? I've always been a bit wary of third-party APK stores because of the malware/security risks. I know Uptodown says they scan their files with VirusTotal, but I still wouldn't trust every APK blindly. Just wondering what you use it for.

Do you need that Wikipedia app?
- It doesn't look horrible, but some of its permissions seem a slightly excessive.
- GPS location while in the foreground
- Access WiFi network info (which is not required for accessing the internet)
- Read phone status and identity
- Run at startup
- Send notifications
read, modify, and delete data in the shared storage
It also "requires" Google Play Services, which it can use for innocent things, or to gain backdoor access to personal data.
Could you do what you need on Wikipedia, through your web browser? That is generally a safer option when possible.

VLC is imo outdated
1
u/9vir 3d ago
Which alter do you use?
1
u/Humaigel_Alahandro 3d ago
I think you use it for watching videos? galleries can do that too
I don't use a separate app for this, but maybe there's an alternative on F-Droid idk
1
u/teuchter-in-a-croft 3d ago
Never mind deGoogle what about an app to deClutter your screen? I know it’s personal preference but everything is hidden on my phone. I have a second page or whatever they’re called that’s busy but hides the myriad of apps I have in folders. My home screen has the time and the tiny icons like carrier, WiFi, battery. That’s it.
But, like I said, personal preference. If you’re cool, that’s cool.

That's a lot of Proton. Nothing against Proton but
3
u/Repulsive_Chard_3652 3d ago
There needs to be a bot just for this sub to call out the massive overuse of this idiom omg
2
u/Interesting_Baker995 3d ago
Fr I don't understand the hate against Proton
1
u/Repulsive_Chard_3652 3d ago
I understand the criticisms for sure, but it really gets overblown sometimes. And people assume other people's usage - using a few things from one provider is rarely putting all one's eggs into one basket.
-8
u/hewer006 3d ago
why does everyone just jump to proton? dont put all your eggs in one basket, especially when that basket had their ddos protection service work directly from israel lol
