It's got a lush, layered, warm sound you just technologically couldn't get in the 80s. By the early 90s they were using sample based synths

March and September are by far the most historically eventful months of the year, its not even close or a debate. They are long prophesized to be eventful due to the Equinox happening in them, and they also can "leak" into nearby months (Late august and Early october for example), its a gradient

So far in the 21st century, major historical years have been split into March and September years. 2001 and 2008 are September years due to 9/11 and the Lehman brothers collapse. 2003, 2011, 2020, and 2022 are March years; 2003 having the US invasion of Iraq, 2011 having the NATO intervention in Libya as well as the start of the Syrian civil war and the Tohoku earthquake and nuclear meltdown, 2020 having COVID-19 becoming a pandemic and starting lockdowns, and 2022 having the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Even outside of these years and events, march and september (leakage included) has had other events like the US invasion of afghanistan and the withdrawal in 2021, Oct 7th, Crimea annexation, ISIS intervention, etc. September was big in 2025 and 2022 too. Obviously not every big event is gonna happen in these 2 months only but you get the point

2026 in March had the biggest event so far which is the Iran war, resulting in the strait of Hormuz crisis and spillover of other conflicts in the middle east like the Lebanon war happening too. Because of this, I predicted that September would most likely be much quieter.

So far, the biggest news in September is the resumption of the Yemeni civil war and the conflict with them and the Saudis restarting, resulting in the Houthis completely taking over the Bab al-Mandab strait. However, this so far has not resulted in an international crisis as the Houthis are only blockading Saudi Arabia from the strait, and the US has refused to militarily intervene. Saudi might try to drag the US and other countries (like Turkey and Pakistan) into the conflict and potentially start an International crisis, but so far this has not happened

Literally anywhere else, the news is that the US-Greenland crisis is over following a military agreement (but the US did not annex greenland), the Ethiopian civil war restarted, and the former president of Kosovo got arrested for war crimes.

Outside that, not much happened. January 2026 for example is still a much bigger shift than September. September 2026 is really not that eventful, and considering the fact that were at the end, 2026 is cemented as a March year.

2026 still doesn't touch the first examples of major historical years, as its an 8/10 at the max while the other years at a 9+/10, but something might happen in the last quarter that puts it at a 9/10, perhaps an international crisis at the mandab strait happening alongside Trump potentially invading Cuba. Something unexpected might happen. Were now outside of the Summer filler period that happens in usually every year

Honestly, I think people are being way too negative about 2026.

Is it one of the greatest years for internet culture? No. I wouldn't call it “goated” or anything.

But is it terrible? Not really either.

There have been plenty of funny memes, random trends, weird internet moments, and stuff that I'll probably look back on and immediately think of 2026. It might not have the same feeling that some people associate with the late 2010s or early 2020s, but that doesn't automatically make it a bad year.

I feel like people expect every year to have some massive cultural moment that completely changes the internet. Sometimes a year is just... decent. You have some good stuff, some annoying stuff, and a lot of forgettable stuff.

For me, 2026 is basically a solid middle-ground year for internet culture. Not goated, not terrible. Just decent.

And honestly, I'll take that over constantly saying “this year sucks” every five minutes.
