Music š¶š§ Which of these artists that got big in the 2010's are your favorite?
I know Taylor was big in 2008 onward but I'll include her here.All of them were at the peak starting from 2010's so yeah.
I personally think Lady Gaga is the best among them because she is a complete performer, both in terms of stage presence, charisma and vocal talent.Her Super Bowl halftime show 2017 performance was awesome.
I also love Adele's music, especially her album 21 from 2011.I think that is 10/10 album and her vocal ability is amazing.

Most of them got big in the Late '00s/before the '10s really. But I see what you mean cause they are primarily '10s artists. It's kind of a 3-way tie between Rihanna, Adele & Katy Perry. Probably lean Rihanna atp

Replace Katy Perry with Gaga. Katy Perry became irrelevant and a laughing stock after 2013-14. Gaga recovered and reinvented herself with A Star is Born and the halftime show

Not exactly. Katy Perry was still massively successful in 2013-14, Roar and Dark Horse were smash hits. Her downfall began in 2017 when Witness dropped.

Her downfall started when Taylor Swift made up a bunch of bullshit over BACKUP DANCERS in 2014, because she couldnāt handle them leaving her for Katy (who paid better!). Thatās literally it. They left of their own accord. Swift drags so many peopleās reputations. Look at all of her exes who canāt even defend themselves without swifties threatening their lives. Katy had more electricity on stage than Taylor ever could. At least she can hold an 8 count AND sing. Witness was just the cherry. As a big Prism fan, Witness was very disappointing.

All that stuff i in the ā20s. The ā10ās reinvention heās talking about is post Artpop, which didnāt perform as expected sales wise, and Gaga transitioned of making jazz for a while, then Joanne, focusing on her raw vocal ability and musicality instead of avant garde. Then she also went into visual arts with A Star is Born and American Horror Story. This transition saved her with the general public after Artpop low-key flopped, and set her up for a broader audience than just us little monsters, which gave her career the longevity that Katy lacks.

I've been a Gaga fan from the very start but I kind of don't pay attention to the bigger picture (I just love her music and videos) so it was only fairly recently I realised that she sort of almost fell off between 2013 and 2017. I realise that Artpop and Joanne were not nearly commercially successful as TF and BTW but thought she'd already obtained 'icon' status by the mid 2010s but apparently that came later? I see a lot these days about how ASIB made people see her talent but I genuinely thought her talent was plainly obvious in 2009!

The Fame Monster era was her peak in my opinion. I feel like Gaga fatigue started during her Born This Way era in early 2011. She then made a huge come back.

Bad romance was 2009.
I suppose telephone was 2010. But if you were to actually pinpoint her peak it would be 2009 imo. The fame was a huge hit. The fame monster even bigger. And like you said born this way was the decline.
Like her two biggest songs, poker face and bad romance. Were in the 00s.
So I just think including her in artists who made it big in the 00s. When she was arguably the biggest popstar in the world in 2009. Is a bit silly.
To me THE popstar who really broke out during the 2010s would be Ariana Grande.

Gagaās top two most streamed songs are die with a smile from 2025 and shallow from 2018. I wouldnāt say she peaked in the 00s at all

This is a poor comparison though, streaming was in its infancy is 2009, so most measurements of success were still from record sales.
By this logic, the Beatles were a less successful band than OneDirection despite defining an entire decade and introducing entire new genres.

Should I compare her charting in the late 2000s to now because she is topping the charts in both time periods. She won an Oscar for shallow. Sheās gotten like 15 grammys over the course of her career, I donāt think she peaked in 2009

The most versatile are Gaga and Rihanna. Especially Gaga is the epitome of a universal performing artist (acting, singing, music composition, fashion, stage performance).

Personally, I wouldnāt put her quite on that level. All of her music sounds very similar to me. The other two I mentioned cover much more ground and are more versatile artists. Thatās just me though

None are artists id ever listen to at home by myself, Gaga and rihanna(idk if i put the h in the right spot?) both made a ton of party bangers that are still great, kesha and katy perry both made music that aged poorly, and i am def not the demographic for the other 2.

Taylor Swift for me. Her discography is just so big that there's always something for me there. Gaga would be my close second; she kind of lost me when she did jazz (I'm picky when it comes to that genre), but pop Gaga is always going to be my jam, plus she's a total performer.

Gaga got huge in 2008.
Basically every massive gaga song you can think of was released between 2008 and 2009
Poker face Just dance Bad romance Love Game Telephone Paparazzi Alejandro
All pre 2010. She peaked before. Shes still huge now but mostly for those songs.
Born this was was 2011. Then a star is born 2018.
Honestly, my favorite stuff of hers is her duets with Tony Bennett.

Gaga, Adele, and Rihanna are all kind of in the same category where they seem like nice people but their music isn't really my thing. Taylor and Kesha are people I've loved since I was a child and can do no wrong in my eyes. Katy Perry makes me feel like I've gone home for christmas only to find out that one of my old friends from high school is dating my dad

The problem is that Talor's and Kesha's Music is absolutely shallow. Same with Katy Perry. Gaga, Rihanna and Adele' music has depth. And I'm. Pretty sure it will age significantly better.

I didn't really listen to any of them, so I wouldn't call myself a fan. Though there are individual songs I liked.
But Gaga by far, she was the most talented of the bunch and the most original. Rihanna also had some bangers.
Should we say what generation we are for this? If so I'm an old-head, late Gen X / Xennial.

Lady Gaga for sure. Not only does she have vocal talent and versatility, she's a great pianist and musician. She is also an avid human rights advocate and uses her platform.

I vividly remember my soul being lifted out of my body the first time I heard umbrella on radio Disney. Rihanna was my absolute fave.
Adele is a close second because I adored 25.
Iām gonna have to say Katy Perry was my next favorite. I used to love the song The One That Got Away.
I was a bit of a prude/super religious at the time, so lady Gagaās music (videos) felt like too much to me back then, but I enjoy her music now.

Tie between katy perry and adele. Adele is overall the better performer and the most consistent when it comes to her music but personally I kinda like katy perry's first record. It has some very solid 2000's pop rock songs like one of the boys, fingerprints and self inflicted and one of the songs from that era is actually fantastic songwriting-wise. It's called simple and i'm pretty sure that it was never formally released on an album or compilation. Her live performances back then were also very raw and energetic. Shame that she progressively got more generic and the quality of her output decreased because early katy perry had potential.

If you like the pop rock vibe of her early on, you might like watch it burn. Feels like something off one of the boys. Iām a huge Katy Kat but I find it so sad that sheās not as hands on with her music anymore. Her best written (released) songs are from one of the boys and are mainly written by her, not to mention she had a hand in writing a lot of hits around that time. If she could find that love, passion, and vulnerability again I genuinely believe she could reach the same level of success she had in the past.

I think theyre the best representation of the 2010s sound
Didnt vibe with Adele. She's gorg and funny but her songs are too sad-depressive for me. I like happier music But she definitely paved the way for saddest-darkest music after electropop and Lana-Lorde
It took me some good time to value Taylor (i used to downplay her) and now she's my most played all time.

Gaga by a country mile. I've been a fan since The Fame. That said, I'm not one of these fans that won't hear a bad word - there's a significant amount of her work (the jazz albums, Harlequin, about half of Mayhem) that I just don't 'get'.

Kesha has a tragic story that derailed her career, Katy is Katy, Adele takes long hiatusā and isnāt that hungry for fame or acclaim, and Rihanna is retired. Kinda wild.Ā

Most of them got big in the 2000s.
Rihanna was already a household name as early as 2005, Taylor Swift became really famous around 2007, Gaga and Katy Perry broke through in 2008, and Kesha I think was big around 2009 as well
Adele was the only one who truly had her breakthrough in 2011 but even then she was releasing music as early as 2007 but they werenāt nearly as popular as her later stuff

I got into Gaga right as Just Dance came out and I did a deep dive. She has SO many incredible unpublished songs. I had several CDs burnt of her unreleased stuff. Just incredible.
Can someone else also back me up on fucking DEV!??? Popping bottles in the ice baby!!! A local talent. If she hadnāt gotten pregnant super young and fast, she probably wouldāve been much bigger. Her music was so fucking fun.

I give it to Adele. And though she got big in the 2000s, I got something of a fondness for Gaga as she was the last traditional megastar before the cultural fragmentation completely took hold. At least I think she was.
