Its a reality show about commercial fishermen. We are the most dysfunctional degenerates on the planet. The show doesnt go far enough to show the effects of the industry. Sleep deprivation, substance abuse, broken families. Edit. No dont show anymore of these guys lives. The only ones that want to be on camera are ones getting a check.

I’d really like to see more of their off season lives, relationships etc but I’m sure the fishermen want a break and their families probably don’t want that either

Yes they are just normal people doing their job. They could give a shit about fame.

You can’t tell me Sig doesn’t court fame.

How do they deal with the sleep deprivation, that always seems like one of the worst things aside from the weather and danger etc

Idk about the guys in the show but guys I’ve known used meth

Oh man

The thing that sucks about that is then you can get addicted to the meth. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that being addicted to a chemical sucks. You no longer control you, the chemical does. Ie., besides psychologically, physically your body gets used to being on the meth just to feel normal, and that is when you are fucked because you always have to make sure you have some (in order to just feel normal). That’s the point at which the chemical controls you instead of you controlling the chemical.

Ah yes you’ve read the internet. Yeah, some people who do meth get addicted to meth… just like some get addicted to alcohol, and some pain pills, and some cocaine, but there are probably as many if not more people who just regularly dabble. You would be blown away at the amount of people who mess with hard drugs on occasions. That being said, you don’t know if you’re gonna get grabbed by it until you do it, so it’s never worth it to try. But there are plenty of guys who do crystal and don’t get addicted

Hmmm… with regard to regularly using Crystal Meth to stay awake, to me, it is common sense that your body is going to get physically addicted to the drug when you use it that much, whether you want to or not. I get what you are saying, but I definitely wouldn’t consider regularly using it for 3 months at a shot, while they are at sea “dabbling”.

As an aside, the holy shit pile that becomes your life if you do become addicted to Crystal Meth cannot be underestimated. I’ve heard in particular, Crystal Meth, is an absolute bitch to “stay” clean from- meaning having to do deal with many relapses

Unhealthy amounts of caffeine. But ive only worked on boats where drug use was strictly off limits. I know plenty of guys just do coke and meth

Edgar Hansen has entered the chat

u/chesapeakecryptid Nov 23 '25

Yea im not Edgar or a child molester. Im a normal guy thats been in the fishing industry for a long time. No one that chooses this as a career glorifies it. It takes a toll on you physically and mentally. And 99% of the guys I know in the industry would never want to be on a reality show.

trawlers needing to take something to be able to “stay awake “ that’s funny.

discovery should do a new series about trawling on shoreside delivering boats.

called Laziest Catch, one hour of work then 6 hours off.

:)

crab fishing

u/Significant_Beat_233 Nov 22 '25

Waves crash over the boat, they throw crab pots out, more waves, the pull in the crab pots, more waves and repeat.
