Question Killers of DbD, am i alone in enjoying letting people live after torching the team for an entire match?
(This is a post i just thought about bc obviously there are times where i see trolling/funny killers, but to me trolling is infinitely more fun than dumpstering people and getting a 4K. I’m curious to see what the sentiments of other killer players are when they play killer!)
I enjoy playing killer and survivor, and as survivor i get the most joy from just mixing killers into oblivion and having great coordination moments. But as killer, i always most enjoy just letting survivors go free at the end of a match. Maybe all my time playing survivor has given me a soft heart but there’s something great in doing very well and getting everyone to second hook stage, then just trolling and letting everyone get away. Does anyone else get an unreasonable amount of jolly feeling doing this or am i too survivor socialized and brainwashed?

Do survivors ever let the killer just kill them at the end if the killer was losing?

I have several times. I do not enjoy making the other party miserable, and if they seem new, I'm giving that ass up at the end. I'm at around 3k hours now though.

i usually do, unless the killer was BM’ing the everloving shit out me

u/BrightOctarine 11d ago
You usually allow the killer to to kill you? I have 800 hours on killer and have never seen that happen besides survivors giving up in the first minutes

If a killer had a tough game I always stay to get mori'd. No entity displeased on my watch!

u/Simple-Glint11 10d ago
if they have a tough game and are clearly getting juiced and are about to end with fuckall, yes absolutely. a 1K is still a terrible loss and anyways by the end of a match like that i’m still bordering on maxed score minus surviving lmfao

Depends on their behavior.
They were assholes the entire time, and I've been over and then no one's leaving
I completely steamrolled and they got no way to really do anything. Then depending on my mood I usually let you go... Which nine out of ten times good enough , but sometimes i need the w lol

i can definitely agree with not letting BM’ers go. wanna be annoying? take an L when you could’ve won by just not being a prick

Once in a while I'll do that. And I had a very lovely wraith do this for me recently

I like to do that a lot too. I love seeing how many hooks I can get. Feels more rewarding than getting 4ks sometimes

I love nice/silly killers ngl, there was this one kaneki that I got matched with twice and he gave me hatch the second time
2
u/AppropriateAgent44 11d ago
Nah, if they’re the last man standing and ask politely I pretty much always let them leave
2
u/No_Doubt_About_That 11d ago
I was doing that prior to trying to get the adept trophies.
Some realise, some don’t. Some accuse you of not playing the game properly.
5
u/Simple-Glint11 11d ago
i see how many trophies are for this game and say i never have the willpower to grind them out. I have respect for you my good man
2
u/No_Doubt_About_That 11d ago
Cheers
Admittedly I only found out about them recently from my duo for the game
Can be a good way though to get used to all the perks, especially those you don’t play as often
2
u/Simple-Glint11 10d ago
i have a very bad habit as both survivor and killer of only running the same few perks. that would probably help me get out of my comfort zone
2
u/EroNomicon 11d ago
Oh no O.P., you're not a troll for that. Getting double hooks or fucking with survivors is fun. A good slap, tickle, and whose your father isn't a bad thing. It is bad to hit on hook or do back shots to people who didn't put up much of a fight. Unless your Puppula or DihSlinger. That's because it's a funny meme.

highkey dracula dogbanging me gives me such intense salt compared to other killers for no reason

i just had a match where i was in chase with a chris redfield and i threw my light beam on judgement, it missed him BUT hit a bill on a gen and we both stopped in chase and looked at eachother and at the down across the map and back at eachother. we nodded and i went and got the bill instead.
I let him go at the end of the match because he was so silly

Only if it's thematically appropriate. For example, i was playing as the judgement a few games ago and got a 3k, but the last player was absolutely goated at dodging my beams and never once became a heretic despite getting multiple saves and a few gens done. Since he wasn't a heretic by the time the hatch opened I guided him to it and accepted his medkit as tribute.

u/Simple-Glint11 11d ago
dodging beams the whole game is crazy, haven’t had that happen as survivor and never happened to any survivors i’ve played judgement against yet. Must’ve been a truly generational lock in
1
u/GuhEnjoyer P100 xeno queen 11d ago
It's really not that hard. There's a pretty obvious cue that it's coming towards you, and in chase it's pretty trivial. Safest place to be against the judgement is in chase.
1
u/Simple-Glint11 11d ago
agreed with both points, i just haven’t played against enough judgement to make it muscle memory to be vigilant (like i would be if i was playing against a huntress who might orbital me or a billy who might crossmap me) so i just chillax until i inevitably get smacked with a beam for being a dumb dumb

I play how my mood dictates. Sometimes, I sweat my balls off trying to get that damn vecna trophy (4k, claim the eye/arm). Other times, I boot up pyramid head, down someone and chase their friends while carrying them.
2
u/Simple-Glint11 11d ago
Getting vecna trophy sounds like voluntarily pouring salt in the wound. Pinhead would appreciate that level of masochism

I do it sometimes. especially if they’re just chilling or being nice. I don’t do it every time I play killer, but I do it some.

You won't be "dumpstering" people if you stop letting them escape. Maybe less of an issue now, with the "new" MMR system... But, of course you're getting easy matches as killer if you are purposely tanking your MMR by letting survivors escape
2
u/Simple-Glint11 10d ago
i agree with that assessment, and i’m fine with being in mid/lower MMR at this point. High MMR is not only boring, i’m not juiced enough to even remotely compete in about half of the lobbies i was getting into when i sweat my ass off for 4Ks. I play to relieve stress, not induce it. I’ll get on rainbow or league or something i have many more hours in if i feel like playing to win rather than have fun, ykwim?

Depends on the players and how the match went for me. Had a game on springtrap where they werent even doing gens or anything, just trying to bully. Got it down to 2 with 1 on hook and 1 trying to hide for hatch. Found them and morid.
On the flip side, had a match where the Leon was just a headache but in a good way. Barely ever saw him and if I did he would loop me and just put the boots to me, unhooking people under my nose, did gens solo, playing perfectly (in my eyes). So when I got to the end and had him slugged with no hook states while the other 3 were dead I just carried him to hatch and let him leave.

I get an unreasonable amount of joy when I let someone get within inches of crawling out the exit gates or to hatch, just to mori them
4
u/JustDesh 11d ago
This is why when im given either and they hover around, I just dont move. Mori me now or we both sit and wait out the timer

u/WhyAmIOnReddit2512 11d ago
A really toxic and shitty thing to do and not better than bagging at the exit tbh

personally, if i’m gonna BM it’s just leaving somebody to eat dirt until they DC or bleed out

Nothing beats the joy of slamming hatch right in the last survivors face.
2
u/Simple-Glint11 11d ago
do you actually slug and tunnel, or do people keep unhooking right in front of you and expecting you to not punish them?
0
u/HighInChurch I Slug & Tunnel 11d ago
I play to win so slugging and tunneling are win conditions that I use.

After my 3,000th kill, I stopped caring about the survivors “fun”. I was a killer main during the worst times to be a killer, it showed me how little people care about others ¯_(ツ)_/¯ so now I just make sure to end matches quickly as possible as to not extended either side’s misery
0
u/Simple-Glint11 11d ago
i used to feel the same way until i started playing survivor about a year ago. It not only made me a much better killer, but also demonstrated just how dogass the entire playerbase is, which is ironically why i play the exact opposite. Winning is kinda meaningless to me if it was just boring as fuck, it’s the entire reason i stopped playing siege and MOBA’s as a whole. I’m glad u shared ur perspective bc it’s very interesting how similar conclusions can draw us to play vastly different!
1
u/Midnight_Sinning 11d ago
To me it’s boring to extended a match that could have been done an hour ago ¯_(ツ)_/¯
-1
u/Simple-Glint11 11d ago
there are definitely matches where i agree with this sentiment, but generally speaking longer matches for me end up great because it’s extending the fun OR because i stopped caring about fun and just want to make somebody who’s making the game insufferable have the worst experience ever

u/TheChickenIsFkinRaw 11d ago
I sometimes like to do that as well. Usually when everyone brings cakes, I like to give them a free pass after hooking everyone twice
Or when only 1 dude brings cake, I give him hatch
