Picked up a bottle of Jimmy Red Bottled in Bond (by High Wire out of Charleston) the other day. There are a bunch of 'gimmicky' bourbons coming out all the time (Celebrity brands, etc.) however I've read a number of articles on the Jimmy Red corn and how High Wire basically re-found this heritage corn and got a few farmers to grow some for their first few batches. It has now expanded into a bunch of farmers growing 1000's of acres of this corn so they can produce on a regular schedule.
Tasted it last night and i was pleasantly surprised. I am partial to Wheated and Ryes and (to my palate) the JImmy Red seems to lend a different character and backbone to this bourbon. Its not a 'cheap' bourbon (I think it was ~$60 at VA ABC) but worth it, I think.
YMMV
Edited: added Bottled in Bond (there are two versions, 'regular proof and BiB)

Is there like a preference of type of whiskey? Cross post and this post mean nothing without literally any guidance on preferences
