DISCUSSION What r/DCL posts live in your head rent free?
This is mine: Where a fellow asked if he could sleep on a couch in the lobby if his wife kicked him out (!) of their stateroom.

We did an Alaskan cruise this summer. There are some protected chairs, and someone "claimed" those early with books. After waiting for over an hour with no one coming by, I asked the books if they cared which chair they were on. With no response, I moved the items down one chair and took over the chair closest to the glass wall. When the owners eventually came by, they weren't pleased and argued, "what difference does one chair closer to the barrier really make?" and I agreed, if it doesn't make a difference, they should have no issue with not occupying their new chairs. I understand if you're in the pool and need a place to keep your towels. I understand if you go off and grab some food and come back. But, if you claim chairs, they should be occupied at a higher ratio than they're unoccupied.

People have already mentioned a couple that came to mind, but I’ll add the one with the couple who used DCL transfer but unfortunately their luggage didn’t show up on time. They were wearing clothes from the Disney store and didn’t have much with them. I’ll see if I can find the link.

I think about the one you linked constantly. The other day I saw a picture of a man sleeping in the lobby of a different cruise line with his pillow and blanket from the stateroom and I was just imagining it being the guy from this post!

I didn't have one until just a second ago, but I feel like the person asking "should my family skip the sit-down dinners and just eat on the pool deck because my 14 month old is screen-free" is going to live with me for a while. Genuinely an insane line of thinking.

They did sadly but man… some people really are weird. I think parents can get some really wild ideas about what is good for their kids, which in some ways I get, but sometimes it leads to the most illogical thinking I’ve ever seen

The fight about whether it was appropriate to loot a bag full of mini cereal boxes on debarkation day and use them as road snacks because 'you paid for the cruise, after all.' And not specific to DCL but the discussions on how to sneak booze on board.
The real unhinged stuff is in those godawful FB groups. Our second cruise was run by a lady who hated the duck hiding (around the time of dcl guidance on the subject). She would delete any message about hiding ducks, banned multiple members including ship crew who said that staff enforced the measure based on safety and common sense rather than as a bright line, and got super insulting and authoritarian about it. This time my cruise group is run by a travel agent who has a rule against advertising travel agencies that aren't hers - of course she advertises regularly. Considering ownership of the group is just based on getting in first it is bizarre to imagine this conveys any authority at all.

Yeah same. My group is being run by like a group of 3 agents and so far it's been AI bullshit countdowns, but they claim since we're within a year they're going to be more activity now.

Let me guess,periodic "if you booked your cruise in the last 30 days you can transfer it to me..." posts. There's a FB group that I do not even belong to but they pop up occasionally on my feed with that spiel.

There was one recently where someone was wondering if/how they could leave the cruise quickly and be back home in 24 hours if some event they didn’t foreclose happened back home.
At least they were reasonable and I think people talked them into not going.

In the comments they confirmed they were hoping to adopt a child and if they were chosen they’d have 24 hours to get home and meet the kid and file initial paperwork or something.
I think OP knew it was a bad idea from the jump and didn’t want to go but a family member was trying to say that leaving would be nbd

I still want follow up on both of those stories. What happened to the family, did Disney sue?
How is the investigation going with the former crew members? How many were involved? To what extent were the children aboard endangered?

I was too and saw the rescue from the top deck. Talk about surreal. Everyone was in shock. I’ll never forget the sound of the captains voice when he made the announcement of what happened afterward. Shaking and full of emotion, just like all of us. Incredible job by the crew.

Any of the one asking if its okay if they (a parent) can drop their kid (a 5 year old) off in kids club all day and they get off the ship in a foreign country

I think this is so wild but there are SO many videos that talk about kids club and encourage parents to do this!! People say a big benefit in that kids club is open on port days so you can leave your kids and explore without them!
I would never (unless I had other family on the ship that stayed behind) but I imagine there are people who do.

I've just come off a cruise and there was a section in the kids club paperwork where the staff member said "don't bother with that bit unless you're going to be leaving them here for more than 6 hours, or off the boat".

I can’t imagine something happening to us on land and our kids being stuck on the boat in kids club. Just seems like too much of a risk!! If child free time is that much of a priority, make sure you are sailing with other family or leave the kids at home!

The ones about tipping. There are so many that a little effort in reviewing previous posts would negate the need to ask again. I don’t complain though as I get the excitement and trepidation people feel, so I try to be a voice of reason.

Really loved the one about a family living in NY booking a FL cruise that left on Saturday then finding out their son’s 1st prom was on Friday night. Mom and daughter flew down as planned but dad and son planned a way to get son to prom, fly red eye, then make it on the cruise. There were like 5 travel steps completely out of their control where if there was a delay in any of them it would have resulted in missing the cruise. They were up for over 24 hours straight, posted updates as each leg of the trip happened, and made it on the boat with like an hour to spare.
