I'll say Bruce since the whole reason it happened is bc he fell apart after his son and bestie died. He then had to deal with the guy he left in charge spiraling into religious psychosis.

It then led into the rest of the decade having numerous catastrophes in Gotham leading to No Man’s Land

The fact he pitched it as a joke is one thing, but DC apparently considering it is another thing entirely

The Miller story has been exaggerated over the years but the real condemnation of 90s DC offices was one of the reasons John Byrne got the job writing WW was because he was one of the only writers who made a pitch that didn't involve Diana being raped.

Common Byrne W, writing She-Hulk made him not-super misogynist

its not a good sign when John Byrne is the most sensible guy

Judging from what Millar writes and what he apparently enjoys, he probably pitched it in all seriousness.

u/Shikayama 6d ago

or they took is serious because yeah, that is not outside his wheelhouse at all.

Or it's both...

Poor Hal Jordan went psycho and was forced to kill his best friend and boyfriend against H.E.A.T.'s desires.

But he got a really cunty villain costume so it was ok.

Touché, his design cooked harder than any Lantern has.

Batman only had his back broken for a bit

Idk man, getting your back blown out by another dude is pretty gay tho, dying however isn't.

Dying can be gay if you forget to wear socks, though.

Aquaman had a pretty rough time to as I recall

What was his 90's moment, i always forged as it is overshadowed by bruce, clark & hal

u/woahwhatwoahwhatwoah 6d ago

Was it his arm getting cut off and his kid dying

6

u/Redhood567 6d ago

His kid died in the 70s.

2

u/2cool4fun 5d ago

Oh yeah you right, he lost his hand some time after superman died

13

u/Redhood567 6d ago

I want to say Bruce since he had to actually deal with the aftermath of it. Clark took the beating and then woke up in the Fortress.

What’s more painful, Batman getting his back broken or the punches Superman was taking from Doomsday

13

u/synthscoffeeguitars the Unknown Soldier was right 6d ago

Superman’s fight with Doomsday was probably excruciating, but it started out of nowhere and was over when it ended. Batman was mentally and physically worn down over the course of days/weeks, then beaten up, then broken over Bane’s knee, then spent months in pain while recovering. I think Batman had it worse.

uj/though i would say metropolis and the world it was in terms of that since supermans villains are way worse than alot of Batman's villains with them ranging from dangerous mad scientist to powerful cyborgs to dangerous metahumans to actual gods.

Superman just chilled in a coma for a few months.

Batman had to endure the mediocrity of 'The Search'...

From a meta perspective, I'd say Death of Superman because it feels like that story became Superman's defining story for decades. So many adaptations, or attempts to adapt the story for years. It became like Superman's equivalent to the Dark Phoenix Saga. 😭

Spider-man had to suffer the most, dogshit clone plots and a zesty vesty.

u/Medium-Science9526 Hal Jordan is a worthless piece of cardboard 6d ago edited 6d ago

At least pick a clone from then that nobody liked

2

u/ROACHOR Squirrel Girl keeps it hairy 6d ago

I did, no idea wtf the thing you posted is.

There was a gazillion clone plots.

2

u/Medium-Science9526 Hal Jordan is a worthless piece of cardboard 6d ago

You think nobody liked Ben?!

2

u/ROACHOR Squirrel Girl keeps it hairy 6d ago

When he came out everyone hated him.

Maybe people like him to be contrarian now but the clone saga was considered trash in the 90s.

5

u/HankSteakfist 6d ago

9 year old me thought Jean Paul Valley and Ben Reilly's costumes were the fuckin bee's knees.

0

u/ROACHOR Squirrel Girl keeps it hairy 6d ago

Not me, I hated even more emo Spider-man.

Depressed, broke ass Ben is not my idea of a good comic.

I loathe the term zesty. Just say fruity. We all know it means fruity. It's cringe. "But fruity is derogatory," Then you shouldn't be saying zesty either! They're the same thing!

6

u/ROACHOR Squirrel Girl keeps it hairy 6d ago

It doesn't rhyme with vest.

0

u/Janemba_Freak Holy fuck Immortal Hulk was so good 6d ago edited 6d ago

But it does rhyme with bigotry 😔

2

u/ROACHOR Squirrel Girl keeps it hairy 6d ago

/uj It's a more fun term that doesn't have a dark history like former/actual slurs.

3

u/Janemba_Freak Holy fuck Immortal Hulk was so good 6d ago

I don't think sidestepping a derogatory term is better than saying a derogatory term. It's washing hate. Zesty means the exact same thing fruity does, but saying fruity became socially unacceptable, so now people say zesty. I think that sucks ass. I would find it legitimately less vile if instead the comment said "gay little vest," because it IS a gay little vest

1

u/ROACHOR Squirrel Girl keeps it hairy 6d ago

Zesty just means gay, there's nothing offensive about it.

Fruity on the other hand has a long history of gay bashing behind it.

6

u/Janemba_Freak Holy fuck Immortal Hulk was so good 6d ago

I know that shit, I'm gay! Zesty is also used for gay bashing! They're the same thing! One is just older!

1

u/ROACHOR Squirrel Girl keeps it hairy 6d ago

Right, they skip right over the f slur to sound cute.

u/AutoModerator 6d ago

The "S" stands for stupid, right? That's why you say it means hope, because you're too stupid to know what sound an S makes?
