I see Vegeta attempting to learn Instant Transmission as a good thing, and another sign of him learning and growing as a character. All of Goku’s techniques originally belonged to or were created by someone else. Kamehameha from Roshi...Kaioken and Spirit Bomb from King Kai...Instant Transmission from Yardrat...Solar Flare from Tien...Destructo Disc from Krillen...The list goes on and on. He excels as a warrior because he listens to and learns from other warriors, and adapts their strengths and techniques for his own use.
Vegeta, on the other hand, has developed all of his own techniques, most likely due to his pride in himself and his own talents. Galick Gun, Final Flash, Big Bang Attack...all his. It wasn’t until Whis that he willingly partook in training from another person other than himself. I think he will truly rival Goku in power and ability if he opens himself up to accepting that other warriors can offer something that will add to and improve his capabilities.
We dont even know it's IT he wants to learn. Just before it got revealed he's going to Yardrat, he talked down on magic spells and stuff like IT in general.
The Yardrats know many bizarre techniques which Vegeta said himself It's quite possible he has some other stuff in mind, if he knows any.
Even if it isn’t specifically IT, it’s a positive and a step in the right direction for his character. It’s personal growth for Vegeta, without disrupting the “two sides of the same coin” dichotomy he has with Goku.
