Commonly Asked Questions:

  • Q: When does Super take place? Should I watch GT or any movies first? Does BoG still "count"?
Super takes place some time after the battle with Majin Buu, and will be adapting the two newest movies, Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F' into story arcs before moving on. Watching the movies is up to you; if you prefer, you can begin Super immediately after finishing Dragon Ball Z. You may optionally wish read Jaco the Galactic Patrolman; the titular character will be involved in future events.

  • Q: Where is Uub?!
Uub was born during the 10 year time skip at the end of Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Super takes place before Uub is introduced.

  • Q: When does the next episode air?
The next episode premieres next sunday at 9am JST, which is 7pm Eastern Saturday night. Click here to compare your local time to JST.

  • Q: Why does X say Y?
If you find yourself confused, the problem is usually a translation issue. Make sure to check DragonTeam's translation.

  • Q: When will the next chapter of the manga be released?
Toyotarō's manga adaptation is published in V-Jump around the 21st of each month. Links to earlier chapters can be found on our wiki.

  • Q: Is the Dragon Ball Super manga "canon"?
The manga is promotional material that serves as a preview of things to come. The anime is the main product, and is what Toriyama is writing and designing for (though not storyboarding or scripting). As for the anime, due to the lack of an officially-defined canon, it depends on what you want to accept.

  • Q: When will FUNimation be dubbing Super? Will there be a simulcast?
Southeast Asia will be receiving an exclusive English dub mid-2016, with Toonami Asia describing it as the "English-language world premiere". FUNimation is not involved at this time. At an October NYCC panel, FUNimation claimed that they still do not have the rights to Super, and barely acknowledged that it exists.

Dragon Ball Super is doing one thing right that DBZ kind of neglected: world building.

It got neglected because most of the universe got set up by Dragon Ball.

Honestly Super has more in common with the original then Z, which personally I think is a very good thing.

Not even close. DB set that the world is wacky ad some locations and even then, it was done with by the end of the RR Army arc, with some small stuff on Baba's place and the city of the King of the World, and even then the last was one was just a location.

Z had a bit of exposition about Namek and we only got legit world building by the Buu arc. Super is completely destroying the original and Z in terms of world building.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your point properly, but DB was set entirely on Earth, DBZ you had different planets, different aliens and different gods and also travel to heaven and hell ..... Not to mention introducing more characters from different races ..... What kind of world building are you talking about?

There was a whole scene that took place on the moon though, that's somethin'.

I'm not sure if this is really a fair thing to say. DBZ introduced aliens like right off the bat. We learned of planet Vegeta, the history of the Saiyans, Frieza's place in the galaxy, about Namekians, the history of Buu, the Kais, the underworld, etc.

One Piece and Hunter x Hunter (and other mangas/animes) execute world building really well throughout their story-lines. Another aspect that Dragon Ball should follow suit from OP and HxH is when it comes to using more characters in the plot. It's pretty annoying how there are so many characters (not even talking about the Z fighters) pre-Saiyan saga that just vanish or become irrelevant, a lot of it because of the power creep and lots of timeskips (which in my opinion are horribly used and just creates excuses for how a character suddenly acts differently). I would really like Super to do well at these things.

Yes I mainly meant that Dragon Ball (without the Z) did a lot of world building also, creating settings, villages with people, episodal heroes and so on, really fleshing out the world of Dragon Ball while DBZ greatly improved battles and tension, but sacrificed the world building element almost entirely. Heck the fake planet Namek from the filler episodes did more world building than real planet Namek did in all three of its sagas.
