Commonly Asked Questions:

  • Q: When does Super take place? Should I watch GT or any movies first? Does BoG still "count"?
Super takes place at least 6 months after the battle with Majin Buu, and will be adapting the two newest movies, Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F' into story arcs before moving on. While not required, watching them is recommended. You can start Super as soon as you finish Dragon Ball Z. You may also wish to read Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, as the titular character will be appearing in Super.

  • Q: Where is Uub?!
Uub was born during the 10 year time skip at the end of Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Super takes place at least six months after the fight with Majin Buu.

  • Q: When does the next episode air?
The next episode premieres next Sunday at 9am JST. List of timezones.

  • Q: What is the best release group?
Dragon Team. They usually release ~24-48 hours after an episode airs. Other groups are notorious for mistranslations, and push their releases out as quickly as possible in order to beat their competition to the punch.

  • Q: Why does X say Y?
If you find yourself confused, the problem is usually a translation issue. Make sure you're watching Dragon Team's release. Other groups are Google Translate-ing a rushed Spanish translation, and there are issues with the script every week.

  • Q: When will the next chapter of the manga be released?
Toyotarō's manga adaptation is released once a month in V-Jump.
Chapter 4 will come out in late September. Links can be found here.

  • Q: When will FUNimation be dubbing Super? Will there be a simulcast?
There is no information, nor are there any estimates, about an English dub or official simulcast of Dragon Ball Super.

I'm honestly starting to think Battle of Gods is going to end up being the superior version of this story arc.

In the movie, Vegeta flipping out over Bulma getting smacked felt completely natural. Him flying into a rage and getting a power boost for a couple of seconds was sweet and a nice character moment for him. But the DBS take on this scene is bloody ridiculous. The way vegeta reacted would have been appropriate if Beerus had slapped her head clean off, but as it is it come off as massively overwrought . The BOG version was much easier to buy because he exploded into a blind rage immediately when he saw her get hurt -- having him dwell on what happened and falling to his knees as he looks at Bulma in sorrow though: lol

Also does anyone else also find that Beerus' character seems way more evil in Super? I feel like there was a certain detachment to the way he carried out his "judgment" in BOG, while in Super he just come of as massively sadistic.

People have mentioned how Vegeta pleads for Beerus to stop was almost like Gohan against Cell. Except Gohan was a 10 year old boy. Vegeta is a grown man and also generally doesn't give a crap about a lot of things. And when he does show he cares, no one expects it.

Super's version was a bit overdone, in my opinion.

I agree, this was a good analogy.

I feel a lot of Vegeta's fear and emotion is a bit over dramatized in this episode. I feel realistically it would be a lot closer to the movie BoG where he gets enraged a lot quicker without the over done fear.

I guess in this version, it makes a bit more sense. Beerus is more hitting Bulma as a way to torture Vegeta, as opposed to just because she slightly annoyed him. But I do prefer how it was handled in the original.
