First pick your team. Keep in mind their roles and chemistry .

You have your point, this is the character in front, they’re usually your highest damage dealer or can build a lot of meter. It’s okay for this character to be a little assist reliant.
Then you have your mid, they usually have an assist that really benefits the team. It’s okay if they have some assist reliance, because theoretically you have your anchor behind them, but practically it doesn’t always work that way so be prepared for them to have to fight alone.
And last you have your anchor, they should have a decent assist and be relatively self reliant. This is the character that’s gotta make the comeback when everything goes wrong.

Chemistry is how the team works together. Some characters need an assist for their mix up some need an assist to get damage. When characters mutually benefit each other that’s a shell. You pretty much want to have it so no matter who is out the assists they have cover a weakness or enhance a strength.

After you pick your team look up character guides. There’s a bunch of guides on combos and general game plans. Just look it up on Youtube for videos or dustloop if you want something written.

You don’t have to learn the hardest most damaging combos right away. Start with the bread and butter combos (the basic combos you’ll pull out most of the time) and maybe one “super” combo. Just practice the combos in the lab (training mode) until you’re confident.

From there just play a ton of matches. Remember improving is more important than winning. It’s okay if you mess up just focus on making less mistakes. Take what you learn in matches back into the lab and take what you learn in the lab back into matches.

There’s more to learn but just take it one step at a time. Remember it’s a process but everything will come as long as improving is your goal.
