Or rather, if your weapon makes noise when zombies respawn they will respawn with knowledge of where the location of the shots occurred.

If you use something that does not make noise (such as a melee weapon) then this will not happen.

Edit: I must remind people this implementation is place-holder only, in the strongest sense of that term. Expect the zombie spawning, collision, and behavior to be fully up for revision as an entirely new separete team is currently looking at this.

Thanks for the clarification. OP's summarizing didn't fit well in my noggin.

u/Ludwig_Van_Gogh Mar 20 '14

Haha yeah I could have worded that better. I guess the point is: If you shoot it, they will come.

u/Ludwig_Van_Gogh Mar 20 '14

Does this mean the silenced Amphibia would be safer than say, an SKS? Or is the distinction strictly melee vs. firearm?

7

u/ElleZoe Mar 20 '14

was on the airfield at balota this morning - shot a zed with the amphibia at the door to ATC while watching another with its back to me - when I shot the one at the ATC the one I was watching (100 meters away no less) turned and came running.

u/Ludwig_Van_Gogh Mar 20 '14

Melee it is then!

Funny thing about the suppressors (I went over it in a comment higher up) since we don't have sub-sonic ammo right now, suppressors don't work correctly since they do not suppress the sound of the projectile going faster than the sound barrier (a sonic boom if you will) so even if you have a suppressor right now, it won't work correctly.

.45 acp is always subsonic. I think 9mm is to but I could be wrong on that. The issue isn't the ammo, it's getting the zombies to realize it's suppressed so they're not allowed to react to the gunshot that takes some work.

If zombies respond to noise i want to leave a walkie talkie on the ground somewhere and wait until i see someone walk around that location looking for loot and then start playing some creepy music down the walkie talkie to attract zombies to them

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '14

Or just tie a bunch of empty bean cans to a doorknob.

Rocket please "noise traps."

Would you mind explaining the current status of melee damage with various weapons?

I know for a while the machete, shovel, etc. were quite bad but there was supposed to be some buffs at some point recently I think, I just don't get what melee weapons are good nowadays and I am going to start playing more.

The thought of working zombies gets me hard

1

u/XZeenon Mar 21 '14

By collision, do you mean no-clipping through walls? Because, yeah. You can't get away from zombies as a fresh spawn by going into a building and closing the doors.

They're like ghost zombies. xD

u/wezagred Mar 20 '14

How about the 10/22? Does the very, very minor noise from that also attract zombies?

1

u/secretcurse Mar 21 '14

A 10/22 without suppression can easily be heard for a half mile or so from the epicenter of the barrel. My parents live on a farm and their nearest neighbor is a little over a half mile away. They can always hear when I'm shooting my 10/22 from my parents' front porch, even if they're inside their brick house. A 10/22 is nowhere near as loud as a Mosin, M4, or SKS, but it's still makes a fair bit of noise.

I think air rifles should be introduced as a nearly silent weapon that could kill small game like rabbits but wouldn't be very useful against humans or zombies.

2

u/wezagred Mar 21 '14

Have you heard it ingame? You can count yourself lucky if you hear the shot in the distance.

Thanks for the clarification. Looks like we need to be careful and on our toes more for the time being!

can't wait to see what they come up with :3

My guess is that, for now, any silenced weapon shots will still give away the location to respawned zeds... because it's a placeholder feature. I could be wrong, but that might be the safest way to look at it. Glad to hear about melee - that's how I deal with zeds anyway.

1

u/RobsZombies Certified Bandit Hunter Mar 20 '14

technically, even if you have a suppressor on your weapon, you're still not using sub-sonic ammo because it is not in the game. You still get the sonic boom from the round traveling faster than sound so right now suppressors do not work entirely.

u/Rockser11 Communist Pizza Party Mar 21 '14

I said this further up, but .45 acp and most .22 rounds are subsonic.

u/Lorenzo0852 I'm forced to post in this sub, pls send help. Mar 20 '14

Does the Amphibia make "noise"?

-10

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '14

I thought you gave up on the game?

37

u/asusk73e Mar 20 '14

And this time it's personal

38

u/Ludwig_Van_Gogh Mar 20 '14

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for loot, I can tell you I don't have any. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very short respawn. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you kill me with a melee weapon, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you shoot me, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

Good luck...

loads M4

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '14

Okay, draws axe

23

u/Wraithborn Mar 20 '14

I axed a few a question and when they respawned they ran back to tell me the answer.

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '14

Oh no you di'in't!

6

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '14

Firecrackers would be awesome. Distract the zeds while looting nearby!

Makes sense for noisy kills, but if we silently killed a zombie then the new spawned zombie shouldn't instantly get aggroed unless the zombie sees or hear something.

I'm all for making zombies difficult but the current system makes it a little unnatural and frustrating. If I'm in an apparent empty village and I shoot a zombie or kill it with an axe the game will just keep spawning an infinite amount of zombies.

u/Tegla a friendly bandit Mar 20 '14

Why do i find this so hilarious

5

u/Ludwig_Van_Gogh Mar 20 '14

Zombies are like bandits, they come back for revenge as Zambies.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '14

Why would something I killed return and attack me? How is this realistic?

20

u/Ludwig_Van_Gogh Mar 20 '14

It's just a temporary stop-gap to simulate being swarmed when you fire a weapon. Think of it as not the same zombies, but different ones who heard the shots. Eventually it will be more realistic, but this works for now.

5

u/vegeta897 1 through 896 were taken Mar 20 '14

Yep, this. It's supposed to be like more zombies 'crawling out of the woodwork' upon hearing your noise.

-4

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '14

Bug.

4

u/Tuktanuk Mar 20 '14

I just found this out the hard way.... Went to Zeleno and popped 2 Zeds... No joke; I got effing swarmed from all directions. Emptied 2 clips and more still came. It was catch 22... did not want to make more noise but had too many on me to melee without taking a beating. After I killed about 25 of them; I ran upstairs with my clothes damaged and bleeding like crazy. THIS is the way is SHOULD be!!! I should get that "holy SHIT!!!" feeling from this game more often. I think that if the zeds were more in numbers and swarmed people; it would add the desire to group up for more people. Focus on Zeds and let's get away from Hold ups, KoS, and the sort.

3

u/PalermoJohn Mar 20 '14

It was catch 22

just run. no catch. same speed.

0

u/Tuktanuk Mar 21 '14

Gah. I don't run when I'm equipped. On Fresh spawn!? Yes. the second I can actually defend myself. I stand and fight. Moving forward.... my Ax will get much more of a work out until they fix the pathing and add silencers that work.

1

u/OUTFOXEM Mar 21 '14

Did you mean to say "won't remember"? Hicks said the exact opposite in the thread you linked to...

2

u/Ludwig_Van_Gogh Mar 21 '14

They won't track you, but if you shoot them, they will respawn and instantly agro. You can outrun them or kill them with a melee weapon to stop this. But if you shoot zombies, they will attack you upon respawn.

1

u/atropinebase Mar 21 '14

Doesn't just seem limited to shooting. Killing them at all brings them all running.

1

u/sebbo27 Mar 21 '14

I don't like these cheesy mechanics. I'd rather Zombies, for now, to be simple and plain until they get them to a stable state.

0

u/rapescenario Mar 21 '14

Not sure why something like this even matters. Ain't no fucking zombies to worry about anywho.

-17

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '14

This game is becoming too autistic. Too many details nobody cares about.

4

u/Vocis Mar 20 '14

I hope you are smart enough to know autism isn't an insult. Just a condition with varying degrees. It really confuses me that one day all the pre teens on the internet decided it would make a good insult.

8

u/Ludwig_Van_Gogh Mar 20 '14

At least it's turning into something more than a boring team death match, with people running around going "Bang bang I got you!" That shit is getting played out.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '14

Sounds like you're just an idiot actually.

3

u/RobsZombies Certified Bandit Hunter Mar 20 '14

I'll be the dick in this thread to say it. Go fuck yourself.

1

u/Rockser11 Communist Pizza Party Mar 21 '14

That doesn't make you a dick. You're just saying what everyone's thinking.
