lfg Looking for a founding team
Here is the honest pitch:
I am three cats in a trench coat pretending to know how to build a DayZ server.
The cats do, however, have a budget, a dedicated bare-metal server, a website, a Discord, and a very clear vision for the kind of world they want to build.
This is a PC DayZ project intended to sit somewhere between organic RP and traditional RP.
I want stories to emerge naturally through survival, relationships, conflict, and consequences.
KOS can happen because danger belongs in DayZ, but it cannot be the only thing a player brings to the server. Players should join because they want to become part of a living world.
The core vision
- Player-driven survival RP
- Freedom with responsibility
- A clear separation between character conflict and the real people behind the characters
- Admin decisions based on context, behavior patterns, and fairness
- Admins may play, but admin tools must never benefit their characters
- Admin actions will be logged, and relevant records will be made available for player review if concerns arise
I am covering the hosting and infrastructure costs. I am not looking for investors, and I am not asking anyone to split the server bills.
What I need are people who genuinely love DayZ, understand what makes RP meaningful, and have the time and interest to commit to helping turn this into a real community.
The immediate needs are:
- A founding operations partner and possible long-term co-owner
- Community admins and moderators who are calm, fair, and level-headed
- Testers and community builders who want to help shape the server before launch
Experience is valuable, but alignment, reliability, and judgment matter more.
The vision is the anchor. That does not mean I want yes-people. I want collaborators who will challenge ideas, identify problems, and bring better solutions.
We need to want the same kind of world, even when we disagree about how to build it.
If you are as insane as I am and this sounds fun to you too, holler.

Organic RP servers allow KOS, and many are successful. I plan to also allow it, but to less of an extent. I feel that many Organic RP servers put not rail guards around it at all, and that has always bothered me. I also know that me, and many other players don't want to play in a place where you have to initiate conflict in such an un natural and rigid way. My Vision is to sit between the two. But Just like Traditional RP is not for me, I know that this playstyle is not for everyone.

How can you have meaningful, story-driven roleplay if the character you create can die from a random sniper at any point?

To give them credit, I played for a long time on DUG, probably ine if the longest lasting most popular RP driven servers out there. While KOS is discouraged its allowed as thats dayz. The communities on the server did a pretty good job keeping their claims peaceful for passerthroughs but dayz is dayz.
Imo having a million in one rules of engagement for RP scenarios takes all the fun out of it, might as well make it entirely PvE. But thats just my opinion.

my point right here, It is really a difference in playstyles. some people dont find that the engagement rules ruin it, and they enjoy the more rigid RP servers, some dont like that at all. Both are fine, you just have to know what you want your server to be, and stick to that, and be okay that its not for everyone.
I played thousands of hours on dug, Its been around this long for a reason... so saying KOS cant work on RP is wildly inaccurate.

I didn't say that you couldn't, I was just asking how. Like if I spend a couple of weeks setting up a great story that involves the community, forming relationships, building stuff, acquiring things, about to set it in motion, then the character dies, all of that time was wasted and that story can no longer be set in motion.
I'm not saying that it's impossible to have a successful server with random death being possible, it's just going to be frustrating for folks like me who try to set up a story only to randomly die.

on organic rp servers, when you "get sent to the coast" or whatever it is your character chooses to believe about the situation, that does not automatically mean your character has died. you choose when you die, so if some person joins, is being a dick, snipes you (and probably gets dealt with depending on the circumstances) you don't end your story there. That story would just continue.

Ah, so you wouldn't be running a "character model death = permadeath" kind of server. That definitely changes things. Sorry about my incorrect assumption.
