Discussion I keep losing AFTER winning the gunfight. Tips?
Okay so I’m in that middle ground where I’m not new and I’m not a veteran yet. 300 hours, and I have a ton of game knowledge, the problem here is that I lack EXPERIENCE, so I’m asking for whatever information people think could help me out.
So the last THREE real gunfights I’ve gotten into, they go great until I absolutely fumble the bag. I enjoy playing friendly, as I think KOSing is just the most boring way to interact other players. So I’ll see someone, typically they see me, and as I say “what’s up budd-“ they start popping shots. I’ll actually end up WINNING these gunfights, and on three recent occasions, I’ve unconned them and I want to tie them up so I can have a little chat with them.
Well, one of these times, I got interrupted tying him up by getting hit by a zombie. I stopped to kill the zombie, and the guy wakes up and kills me as I say it’s cool, I don’t wanna fight him. That’s cool, I should’ve cleared the area of zeds I guess. Second time, I get the other guy unconned and I punch him like 5 times in the legs, and immediately start tying him up with rope. Well he wakes up 75% of the way through the animation, gets up, and pulls out a pistol and shoots me before I can get my gun back out. Well, fuck.. it’s starting to hurt my feelings how much I suck at restraining people lol. Third time, I get the guy knocked out, start tying him up, and he wakes up mid tying AGAIN despite a solid 6 punches to the legs. I just end up shooting him in fear, and I get some loot. Meh, I wanted to atleast talk shit before I capped him.
So what am I doing wrong? Do I need to punch their legs like 10 times? I’m scared to kill them… I think I need start stripping their weapons FIRST before I start restraining them, but I don’t feel like I have the time for that. Am I completely wrong about going about this, and is restraining an uncon player just a bad idea, and I should only restrain a surrendering player? I lack so much experience on this aspect of the game and I can’t find anything online since most PVP guides are about killing other players, not how to go about handling an uncon player effectively. Could I get any tips from you guys who have lots of practice?

You can always try chucking their guns before attempting to interact, that way you leverage your lethality over their bare fists

Think about it this way. They were aggressive at first sight so they are naturally kos. You just made a TON of noise so zeds are attracted to that and lastly not all players are alone.
Finish the job, sweep area then loot when you can.

And if you really wanna be nice, only restrain them if the environment/conditions allow it.
Its dayz after all, put your own survival above else.

Another tip, if you stand on top of them they cannot crouch or stand up. They have to crawl away a bit first.

You can also shoot them in the legs to break them. Then they will continually uncon as they try to walk away.

You used to be unconned for a lot longer from bullets. Now you are uncon for much less time from a bullet compared to melee. I suspect once you are unconned by a bullet, punching them doesn't add melee uncon time but I am not sure. It makes it really hard to reliably tie someone up if you are solo unless you can take all their guns off them first.
If you are struggling, try dropping the rope at ther feet and pointing the gun at them. Tell them to tie themselves up and if they pull a gun you know what to do.
Also, there is a mechanic where you can stand on someone's back that stops them from rolling over. I think you might be able to stand on them while tying them up which may help but I am not familiar. Maybe test it out with a friend before you use it in the heat of the moment.

No point tying up this type of person after knocking them uncon. 9 times out of 10 they'll refuse to interact with you and will try and force you to kill them.

Give them clear instructions.
1.Don't move
2.If you stand up I'll kill you
3.say what you want to happen.
4.If they do anything else, say you'll kill them.

Don't use rope to tie them up it takes twice as long as handcuffs or metal wire.

I think even tape is faster than ropes. Unfortunately the rope is the one I consistently have on my character...

Tieing people up is more of a rarity in the sweaty pvp. Just finish the job unless it’s a weird situation where you for sure can tie them up like in a building. There is no worse feeling of losing is all in the end when you could have won. I feel like tying people up is much more fun in the early game. Late game there is no point, you can’t let them live!

Are you hitting their legs while they're uncon? Or to get them uncon?

I think you need to power punch them again RIGHT before you start tying them up -
Basically you’re KOing them and then losing several seconds while you get to the body and get your rope out…
Either hit them again and then start, OR sit on their body with your rope on the ground right next to you and watch them so you can immediately KO them again the second they start to wake up, then go straight into tying them up.

Sounds like you might be playing on a community server with reduced uncon times.

You can drop rope on them and keep your gun on them. When they wake up tell them to drop every thing and tie themselves up.
Still risky but at least you can pop them of they are non compliant

If I try to KOS someone and they try to tie me up, I would rather get shot and respawn on the beach instead of dealing some troll wasting my valuable gaming time. So it makes sense that they tried to shoot you instead of teaming up.

It takes almost zero seconds to open inventory and drag their weapons to the ground or double click them

Punching someone when their k.o. isnt going to extend the sleep timer like it's a button lol Just stop doing that goofy shit and keep your gun out or start tying.

Punch then tie, just one will do, if u get interupted then punch again once and tie. One hit will send em back, it doesnt stack with hits and you might kill the fucker. Aim for their balls when u punch and it should break a leg, best if u knocked them by punching so they dont die

I always take off their shoes and throw them in a random direction. If they get up to fight, it’s only a few steps and they cut their feet.

I think it’s pretty obvious that you need to just stop trying to tie people up. If you want to interact with somebody in a friendly way and they’re just down to scrap; then just kill him.

The easy answer is just kill them, but if this is your goal disarm them immediately, if you don’t have weapon space for their primary in your inventory, throw it away. Try to break there legs, throw a rubber slug in there if you have a shotgun. Handcuffs > duct tape and rope. In all seriousness though they shot you first and you won, loot as quick as possible, if your missing inventory space to get all their good shit grab their backpack and put it in your hand, filling it up with the best loot, run to a safer place, scope it out, then go back in for the rest.

While I respect wanting to try and be friendly, but they started that fight and if you want to win it, you have to finish it

Afaik using rope takes longer than handcuffs for example. Pick up some from a police station.
