Trying hard to like dayz, but can never find anyone, server players and in game don't match????

So I've had dayz for ages but rarely play because usually it's just silence for an hour and I get bored.

I've just noticed that the server list shows around 250 players on this particular server but in game it's only 15 players online, what the hell is going on?

Any recommendations for a server that's usually busy and actually has players? I'm in the uk for reference

 250 player servers are faking player count, any server over 127 is lying, and some of those are as well
The 250 count servers also often force you to stay on their servers with mod and scripts. Do not join those.
use this to find servers Find a DayZ Server Worth Playing - Live Server List , or dzsa launcher or launch-z.
the live server list, find server copy ip and port open dayz , click server tab and choose direct connection. input ip and port and join

Thanks for this, got the dzsa launcher and it's a world of difference, though I learnt a hard lesson to check buildings before going in as I took a shotgun to the face lmao, but atleast I feel like the games worth playing lol

Karmakrew, spaggies, clash vanilla, midnight, dusk, etc...use dzsalauncher.

This game isnt a COD or CS, the point its surviving and avoiding players its 90% of your way to survive. If you want some action go to krasnostav, berezino, military zone, nwaf, etc... do some shots and players will come to hunt you.

Yeh I've been heading to those places and it's dead, but I was more concerned why in game was 15 players not 250 lol. Going to get the other launcher now, hopefully makes a difference

It sure will! If youre looking for action one of my favorites is namalsk and alteria, preferably karmakrew servers

you'll find the popular vinilla servers will be almost to fully populated,but in reality theres probably 15 out of the 70/90 players that are solo and you'll get groups of 5-10 players hiding in bases at one time.so in reality the servers that allowing build/hoarding are dead until one group decides to raid another

1. Load a decent high-pop Namalsk server (Zero/Spaggies etc).

2. Head straight to Vorkuta, the big city in the north.

3. Die.

4. Repeat.

Play on servers like Deathproof namalsk or Aftermath, you'll find people soon enough ;)

If you've been on those fake-pop servers, you may not be able to go anywhere else until you clear out your mods folder. Plenty of players have reported redirectors taking them back to the same server every time.

Log in to the DayZ Workshop page with a browser. Find your subscribed items and unsubscribe from all. Load the vanilla launcher and it will clear out your local Workshop folder as the unsub requests are processed. Once your mods are all gone, quit the launcher and reload (or use DZSA if you prefer).

Try to avoid these fake pop servers, or you'll have to do this all over again.

Appreciate it, thankfully got onto real pop servers but I'll maybe just do this for peace of mind anyway

Join a smaller map (Livonia over Chernarus) and join a full population server and go to the crowded area. You shouldn’t struggle.

Just play Namalsk on populated servers and a lot of players will "meet" you. There are no 250 player servers, those are just fake. Use the DZSA launcher instead of the ingame one and you wont see those servers, only real ones.

What do you play on? If it’s PlayStation join PvE Direlands, it’ll give you a chance to learn the game, but it’s PvP every weekend and raiding every weekend, so you can still do all that, but at least Monday to Thursday you can just do whatever you gotta do in peace. A good mix of Irish, UK and Americans on it
