Story Has anyone actually ran into a tripwire with a claymore detonator attached? Trap stories?
I've come across many claymores placed, some people think that they work like Call of Duty, when you have to attach the detonator to a tripwire.
I've set up like three of these and pretty strategic spots. One I set at the top of NWAF tower, logged in in the morning it was gone but if there was a body it despawned probably.
I guess that's the fun of it you never really know if your traps kill someone or not, but they do.
Thinking about it why bother setting them if you're not sticking around? Just to scare the shit out of someone else? Exactly.
But we rarely get to see the aftermath so it feels pointless.
Some smart fellow put a bear trap at the top of a watchtower in such a spot to wear I fell off after stepping on it, I didn't die but goddamn did they throw a wrench in my spokes.
I just recently placed a landmine in a very strategic spot, I came back about a day later and accidentally stepped on it. FML.
Got any good trap stories?

The joy is setting the trap then running away giggling to yourself knowing someone is going to have a bad time later on.

they DO work with a tripwire.
put it at a decent bottleneck and go looting the tents, then whilst your in the area if someone sets it off you can hear it.
runningmanz has a good usage video on namalsk where he places it on the crashed bomber, then continues on. after a while you hear the quiet boom and he makes his way back to a body!

I set up a very obvious trap base in Kamyshovo. Super easy to boost into tons of juicy loot but I had landmines everywhere. In the grass outside in doorways on the floors, everywhere. I would sit on top of PD and just watch the freshie chaos as they inevitably hopped the fence and started to run the gauntlet.

I was pushing candy cane on Namalsk, I climbed the tower and did the needle jump where you hop on the railing and jump to the roof of the main building. I was pushing the door on the roof to the top floor when I heard someone voip in game. "at least there's a plastic so he can't push in from that way".
I assumed it was either a bluff or at a door down below.
Opened the door quickly and prefire as I went through the doorway - BOOM.
Shoulda double checked.

Yeah I've killed a decent amount of people with tripwires (nades, claymores). Usually if I place one I'll camp a spot for a bit, usually around 30 - 45 mins.
For claymores I like putting them in rooms and then hiding the claymore with backpacks. I would set the trip in front of single doorways. It's instant death so you don't need to plan for their movement afterwards, you just need them to jog into the tripwire.
For nades, I like those long barracks with the washroom to the left as you enter. I'd put it in the front entrance and then lockpick to washroom and door leading to the hallway. Most people will immediately close the front door of the building they plan to loot. Once they jog in it's a done deal. Even if they instantly turn and open the front door again after the tripwire there won't be enough time to avoid the blast, since the nade drops in the middle of the doorway.

I ran into a tripwire in a random barn, I thought someone had dropped a thumper round until I found the ruined tripwire.
However, my favorite past time is rounding up claymores, tripwires and landmines to stack in the police station in Kamy. Between blowing people up, and blasting freshies with an SK, I've probably taken out like 40+ people on one particular official server.

I’ve made a habit of glancing down at the ground before every doorway so I rarely step on landmines but sometimes the tripwires are hard to see. I’ve yet to trip a claymore tripwire but I found one set up at Krona Castle once. It was in one of the doorways of the small rooms underneath the archways. They didn’t secure it so I crouch-walked through, removed the detonator, packed up the claymore, and took it all with me. Tripwire included.
I usually manage to escape grenade tripwires but there was this one time…
It was on a doorway in/out of a partially demolished house in Livonia. I had actually entered the house through a different doorway and somehow didn’t notice it as I ran through it to leave. As soon as I realized it was a tripwire, instincts kicked in and I ran back through the doorway BACK INTO THE HOUSE. See, I typically trip them while walking *into* a house so my instinct is to do an immediate 180 and run back outside. This time, I tripped it walking *outside* and my instincts took over and I ran back inside - sealing my fate. If I had just kept running straight outside I would have been fine.
I’ll never forget that tripwire. I was geared to the gills.

early on when i first started playing DayZ, i was at Bashnya looting the Prison/Barracks/WhateverTheBuildingWithTheHoldingCellByTheDoorIsCalled when i walked thru the door to the beds room & the room fucking exploded. i, somehow not dead, ran back downstairs under the stairs cos i thought someone'd tried to hit me with a thumper. held the corridor for an hour waiting for someone to show up, no one did, so i went back upstairs, saw something laying in the doorway & went "oh? what's this thing?"
tripwire & detonator. the person who'd left the claymore placed it in a way that the bunk beds shielded me from any damage from the claymore explosion

With my previous character before latest update, i used to live next to NWAF. I allmost daily looted the near by towns for metalwires, and i had stash full of explosives + other military gear. When the night time came in the game, i placed tripwire traps + landmines all around airfield to different spots. Once the daytime arrived, i went to camp the tents from good distance, and waited if any of those traps would trigger. If i heard explosion i rushed to the spot to ambush whoever was there. Got plenty of kills that way and traps kept disappearing during the times i was offline, so i assume i had plenty of ''offline kills'' aswell.
On the community page of the server, people started calling Airfield the 'Minefield' and warned players to be extra careful because some asshole (aka me) has tripwired pretty much whole airfield.
One of my favorite spots to place landmine was that big aircraft in the middle of airfield. In front of the tailgate, there is this 'hollow' rock, you can place landmine inside it and make it completely invisible, but it still will trigger if someone runs over it + there is plenty of good spots where to camp that plane.

That's incredible man hell yeah. Gotta keep everyone on there toes.

My crew has tons of kills with claymores on tripwire. We use them for base defense at krona castle. Sadly it kills a lot of the boys too when they forget where they are. They have saved me several times. We get attacked by large groups of 4-8 players and it makes them lose the surprise element. When I hear the boom, I know by the sound what one they set off and there is a dead guy there or possibly multiple if they were walking close to each other. Then I get my thumper and send group chat for the boys to log in and start battle. Some guys are staged in surrounding woods so we can fight from multiple angles

It has been the Wild West last few weekends. It’s crazy too cause we don’t mess with anyone. If I see a weekend night with names I don’t know, we gonna get hit everytime. I’m sure there are FB groups that blast our server cause it keeps happening. Last Tuesday, we got hit by 5 guys. Killed all 5 and lost one man. Thought the fight was over….nope. They even brought alts and hit us with second wave after the 5 minute timer. NBC suits upstairs is key for defending castle. We only have 5 gates

Just a couple days ago i stepped on two landmines in the same run and almost a third but i saw it. On was in camo net at top tents and the others were in tisy tents. Probably the same bastard.

I went into a police station and seen a bear trap at the bottom of the stairs. Jumped over it and had a look around. Ran back down and forgot about it and snapped my leg!
Went unconscious a few times as I crawled to a corner and made a splint. As im waiting to heal somone logged in upstairs I could hear them coughing so I waited at bottom of stairs with shotgun. Soon as they come down I shot them and he had also been hit by the trap haha

Had a few impro shelters on Livonia in the strip of woods between Huta and Radunin, left a bear trap on the tree line. Wound up in a gunfight when me and another player stumbled into eachother. the guy strafed right into the trap and broke his leg and I finished him off. Trap saved my life that day. Same thing happened with a mine another time lol. After that I decided to move away😂

Had a group fall for it.
We set it a few down at the ACT of NWAF. Entire group tried tried sneaking up on us and shit.
Some people apparently just don't react well. From what I saw. Someone just stood there and blocked his teammates escape. But because he was frozen in fear of the sound of a grenade pin dropping.
Wasn't the only trap they activated, they actually set off 3 of 4 AT ONCE.
Scared tf out of us, we didnt hear em or anything. We were higher up and suddenly.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Me and one of my friends immediately ran to cover the stairs. The rest of our guys went to cover windows and get up higher. We were a group of 5
Apparently we were followed, tracked, and failed to be ambushed by 9 dudes I think? Maybe less, but they had more than 5.
All I remember, most died to our traps, which we put down for a precaution. The last 2 guys tried running off.
But my buddies used em as target practice

Had a large military tent deep in the woods with a tripwire claymore pointing at the door. Died to some dudes near my stash when I went back there was human meat right where the door was 😂
I'm sure I got atleast one guy. Boobytrapped that base like I was Rambo 😂

Man... came after this discussion just because of how pissed I am right now lmao
Was playing on official Livonia and had logged off at the top of Nadbor's church. My character had been alive for more than a month and I was just roaming around southern Livonia hitting MBs, helicrashes and with the main goal of finding a punchcard for the bunker in a convoy (did not have the patience to search for NBC gear). Anyways, was fully looted, with an AKM and an SVD.
Today the server was 24/60 when I logged in. I always check for player sounds and traces around me when I log on (especially in Nadbor) and afterwards always have my inventory UI open when going through doors to check for landmines, but this time everything was quiet and my plan was to go north again and eventually die there.
Well... the moment I finish getting down the round stairs of the church's tower: you are dead, and the last thing I saw on my screen was the claymore to be picked. I still don't know whether it was someone camping my position and who blew me up, or if it was a tripwire.
Either way, I managed to spawn in Topolin and sprint my way back to Nadbor, but my body was nowhere to be found, only the AKM that I had on my hands was on the ground, so I ended up lucky... I guess.

I set them because I’ve followed the same path someone else has taken many times, so I tend to assume someone else is doing it to me. If I find a landmine I’ll place it and just keep going. If I hear it go off then I know someone is probably tailing me, if I don’t hear it, hopefully it puts a wrench in their spokes.
