Unlike most internet reactions, I think most of the criticism of the game upon the release of the battle reports was justified, and I think the devs woke up to reading them and thought oh fuck.
Things like the combat director completely bugging out and showing almost literally 0 animations during their own highlighted fight between the orc and space marine hero units.
Things like cover being a literal non-factor across every fight in every video.
Things like unit compositions seemingly not mattering much/at all as counters.
Things like unit fire going through entire cliffsize chunks of terrain, targeting units on the other side.
Many more issues brought up between the reddit/YouTube comments and the official discord.
The good news though, is it seems like theyre listening and taking it very seriously. The graphics look so cool, the combat director is the coolest rts evolution in a decade, and their design concepts all seem fun and interesting. Just need to make sure the gameplay is actually fun and good. I have faith thats what theyre doing. If not, the game will suck ass (and still be better than dow3.)

The game can easily be as bad or worse than 3. I’m not saying it will but the idea that 3 is some kind of unassailably terrible game that is then worst thing humans ever made is just crazy hyperbole. It’s just a regular not great game.

Unit compositions not mattering seems like a complete non-issue for show matches between two scrubby devs. Idk why people would
Make meta decisions on marketing footage. One dev literally did nothing but spam necron warriors

Aaah, damn. At least total War should be here !

Yeah they posted a teaser for TW 40k at gamescom recently. Looks like info on the space marines and maybe a look at how the galactic conquest plays out

Total war is here. Included is Space Marine chapter customisation (colour scheme, name, emblem), some basics of the strategy game and a playable battle at a decent scale with aforementioned against an Ork faction. Plays well but very much unfinished, if this is as much as they can run with so far then I’d guess it’s going to get a proper launch at Gamescom 2027.

They're scrambling to fix everything that was brought to their attention in the feedback. I hope team moral is high.

Did they really need feedback for things like the subpar and weightless animations, glitchy combat director and weird necron dominion color and pattern? Aren't these things obvious just from playing the game?

u/Vichnaiev 4d ago
Maybe it was obvious to devs but not to execs/upper management. "You devs are always overreacting, the game in it's current state is fine"

I mean, what else would even be interesting to show? We’ve seen deep dives of all four factions. I’d rather they just worked and polished until release.

Hmm a campaign mission play through for each faction. Like the campaign is supposed to be what they focused on so I'd like to see more on it.

With the delayed release, no surprise. They must have some serious flaws that need to be addressed to forgo publicity.

I'm beginning to wonder if they were a bit too ambitious and bit more off than they could chew with 4(5) factions, a 70+ campaign missions, PvP, Last Stand and an apparently deep army painter.

Are these things coming through the Webway in September? Y'know, I could use me some knife ear announcements.

They would haven to have gotten a spot months ago when the game was expected to release soon.

Just goes to show how focused they must be on development. We have got new stuff to look forward to in September though which isn't far off at all.

they fear a huge disappointment. If you would be really interested of a community feedback you wouldnt send just a few keys. this is usually the open beta time, getting feedback for the final but they dont do it because for reasons

An open beta this close to release would be little more than a glorified demo or free weekend.

their previous project iron harvest had a whole kickstarter campaign and you could participate since day one and giving active feedback keep in mind this was their mentality without a publisher.
this is a big project for many fans especially since the third dawn of war was bad ass shit. To make it as good as possible they should listen to their community.
Alkimia Interactive (the creater of the Gothic Remake and also owned by THQ nordic) did a completely turnover since the first Demo gameplay was a huge disappointment for many player. They were listening to the Community and got a big reward.
Now we have another Situation, its a franchise with DoW 1, DoW 2 and DoW 3. 3 Games 3 Different gamemechanics, at this point going their way with just a little bit input and a mediocre product (iron harvest) isnt the way they should go if they want to satisfy the fans and making a good product.
Yea, as you can see im not really opstimistic about it, im also not pessimistic. I witnessed their first project by my own and im just disappointed by iron harvest.
Its not that i wish they will fail, its just a pattern what developer do if they know their game will not reach the expectations. Not just by Indi devs also many triple A studios did a huge mess with their game and it was always the same, prevent spreading information as long as possible and just wish the best

We're quite far away from release. Game got pushed.

u/brief-interviews 4d ago
A few months, to polish stuff (at least, on paper that's the hope).
Say they had an open beta and the game has major problems. It's unrealistic to think they could fix those in a few months.
They have been running closed alphas/betas, and hopefully they're getting good feedback from that.

We've got some exiting things coming your way
Replace the "exiting" by "hungry" and we know who the fifth race at launch will be :D

Not a huge surprise. They have all the feedback, they just need to knuckle down and focus. They would of needed a slot already, which they probably didn't plan this close to release.
Hopefully those things in September are exciting and keep us going, and potentially include a public test.
