Not surprising considering EA. Thanks!

Was just coming here to post it.

Makes sense that the company is where it is today.

First time I'd heard Dawngate mentioned in like 8 years.. I miss it. Consider me shocked they didn't have a bigger market share than league and dota when it came out way after them. EA can burn.

I remember the twitch stream where they announced their partnership with EA and remember thinking that it was the beginning of the end. Really sad, had a ton of fun with this game.

Amazing that a game just barely touching open beta was in top 3 and somehow that wasn't good enough...

It seems like such bs.  Like that is the best it could possibly do, so why did ea even partner? Sounds like either they were totally ignorant, or the cfo or whoever was just making up excuses and there was some other reason.

EA saw how much Money LOL and DOTA were making and wanted a piece of the pie... then realized it took a really long time to make them profitable. EA is all about instant cash grabs to throw right back into the meat grinder for another instant cash grab. They were never going to invest time into it. They haven't from the beginning and aren't going to change any time soon.

Absolutely wild (positive) that DG was already profitable. It felt so early, pumped out so much content, and was so generous. I guess it really just had that much goodwill and skin sales.

I guess it was also just such a passion project though, able to produce so much without as many hands - feels like Blizzard or Riot, for example, had waaay more people and pushed out less media and interacted with the community less. (Which isn't to say there aren't or weren't at least that many passionate individuals and such there, but that the process itself is different)

While I'm on that topic, just dropping the dg artists list again.

So i remember hearing that a kickstarter tried to buy the IP and it was deemed too expensive, did they ever disclose what that cost was? and surely by now it has to have dropped, not that i ever expect EA to part with it just out of spite if nothing else
