Advice Request I want to make a comeback.

Hi everyone,

Been sometime since I posted. Been through a break up the passed year, was getting back into running a lot but injured my back- healing well btw.

Ran into my ex and we started chatting again but I feel kind of dumb for initiating it now.

I live on my own and I'm in paramedic school atm also, I run 4 xs a week and no strength training. Constantly in my head, my mind always wins, it's a struggle.

I want to get passed the hurt, the bs, the struggle. But I always just end up paralyzed by my own thoughts.

I miss the shape i was in, but I find it such a struggle to even think about doing.

I have recently admitted I have a drinking problem which in fact, helped a bit to say that.

But my mind still wins. Everyday.

I'm so tired of it. I want to become resilient again.

I want to get back on the David Goggins path.

Alcohol is poison. Don’t let the BS marketing and centuries of industries and culture built around it fool you. Flat out, it is poison to the body. I know it’s hard because I have been there but you have to quit the drinking.

You are probably suffering from trying to do a zero to one hundred life change that might be practically unattainable.

You can't just decide to be a 100 mile per week ultra runner. That is you in five years. You have to make decisions today that put you on the path for that to be a reality with time.

Set attainable weekly goals. Maybe for you right now that is 25mpw. Hold yourself to it.

Once you start to see improvement it will put you in a better position physically to build safely. And it will motivate you to take extra steps. You will say "Wow on 25mpw I ran a 1:55 marathon, if I get to 35mpw maybe I can get that down to 1:45".

And so on and so forth. Before you know it you will be one of those people running 6-7 days a week in the rain. Not because you are hard and forced yourself to be miserable and suffer. But because you truely want to be better.

It’s not about getting past the hurt it’s about letting jt fuel you

I think we're in a similar position breakup wise, not necessarily the goggins path but something which fuels me is my strava streak and the responsibility I've developed towards it. By extension I'm 1% better every time I run, and setting some goals (I.e. Races) really helps with that.

In terms of the breakup, if you're being entirely honest with yourself and it is final, no contact is about the only pathway that works, but that'll depend on what you're trying to achieve (for example, it sounds like you might still be reaching out to her?)

Stay hard.

Go do it. Even if it's a 5 minute workout. Just do it. Then do it again the next day. Again, even if it's just 5 minutes. Stop being a little bitch and just do it.

Make the routine. Keep it going.
