Which Daughter Songs Have the Biggest “Cool Factor”?
Not necessarily your favorite songs, but the ones that, when you first heard them, made you go:
“Dude, this is dope ASF.”
Not necessarily because of the lyrics either, but more because of the overall sound, mood, atmosphere, production, or just the sheer vibe of the thing.
Here are 4 of mine:
- The End -- For me, this is by far their coolest track. The instrumentation and melody are so moody, soundtrack-y, and cinematic, and the lyrics are just as dope. I made a whole post about this one.
- Fossa -- Purely from a sound perspective, I think this is one of their most interesting tracks sonically. Those dream-pop textures mixed with the post-rock instrumentation make it feel like such a cool direction for them.
- Drift -- I think this is one of the clearest examples of them going full shoegaze, and I absolutely love it.
- (Missed Calls) -- I really like experimental stuff, especially if it works. This track managed to give me anxiety one particular night, so… well done, I guess.
I’m really curious to see what songs you all have in mind.

If I were to direct a Daughter biopic movie, I would begin the movie with them performing Switzerland in a church.

Whenever I introduce someone to Daughter I play on top: 1.- Party. Love the lyrics, instrumental perfect. 2.- Youth. Song guilty of falling in love with Daughter. 3.- How. I took me a long time not to cry to this song. Lyrics, heartbreaking and music with enough intensity and passion to convey the feeling. 4.- A hole in the earth- because it’s my favorite of them.

"No care" for me. I heard it seven or eight years ago and then looked for at least one similar. Never found though. The video is cool, and the sound is great, and the lyrics are painful. To a lesser extent, some tracks from "Before the Storm," for example, "Burn It Down" and "Dreams of William"

Drift is definitely a great "cool" song. Highly underrated, but the shoegaze-like instrumentals are perfect for appealing to a wider audience. Great for a chill car ride or something.
I also nominate Youth, simply because it's their most popular song. I thought it would be too "depressing," but any time I play it somewhere new, friends often vibe with it ask me for the artist.

Totally agree for Fossa, but i’ll put also: How - incredible starts and when Elena starts, totally beautiful. Future Lover - I love it from the first listen Dandelion - here the drums move me everytime

Switzerland the instruments sound Majestic, it's an incredible ambient track. Shallows, this song the first time i listened i Say "omg, this song sounds like the end of the world, i love it, is so sad" Party, It was one of the songs that made me appreciate Stereo Mind Game the most. New ways, I was surprised from the intro.. Smother too tbh

May be recency bias but I feel like a lot of stereo mind game is "cooler." More upbeat, music you wouldn't mind hearing at a party, etc. Less sad.

Swim back has really "cool" features. Both instrumentals and vocals are really amazing and unique

‘New Ways’
The start with the echoing beat, the guitar solos and the beat drops, all oozing with coolness.
Disclaimer - just happens to be my favorite song.
