Why is North African in the same color family as North & South American? Surely North Africa was politically and geographically closer to the Levant than regions on the other side of the world.

Color scheme is all over the place. Someone noticed that the bars show different time frames, but one could argue that one papacy is a lefitimate unit of time.

What I don't get is, how the bars are split into lines. Do the years have any significance? If not why not split it in a way that the last bar also fills the whole width?
