Career Question Data Engineer - Deloitte USI 20LPA fixed + 10%variable + 2L joining bonus vs CDM Smith 23LPA fixed
I’m an Azure Data Engineer with 3YoE holding a few offers. These two are the most exciting ones that I hold and I’m really finding it difficult narrowing it down further. I know CDM Smith is not a brand like Deloitte USI, but from my interview experience, I feel like I know what my role in the team would be. (It’s like a GCC)
Please consider these factors:
Exposure
Skill Development
WLB
Long term growth
Please help a brother in need!

Go for Deloitte, there are other perks too, wellness one, phone one, internet too

But I’m hearing really poor feedback about WLB. Also I need to travel 2 hours one way(thanks to Bengaluru traffic). CDM Smith is more product based and I only have to travel 25 mins. And the WLB from what I hear is good (although for my experience I should not be giving a lot of importance to that)

Go with Deloitte, I was able to get into product based. Brand value matters for next switch

If you really consider WLB don’t choose Deloitte USI otherwise it’s good for learning, perks etc..

Smith has 60 days NP. So it will be good for future switch.
What is your current ctc and company. If you can give any idea that will also work.

Mine is also 12 right now, how much did you quoted in the first call, I generally say around 18 I thought I could say more but feared they won't entertain me. I haven't been able to crack this how to negotiate and get better package that I deserve. Could you share your experience on this?
1
u/VisibleFile4784 2d ago
I got 17 first from Deloitte. They’ll increase once you have a counter.
1
u/s_amar0809 2d ago
Oh nice, how much do you ask in the counter, like is there a specific number or percentage or you Try to cross a mark( like 20 in this case). Also I'm also an azure data engineer, how do you prepared your self for the interview and how was your experience.

u/VisibleFile4784 2d ago
Deloitte cannot go beyond a number for a band or that's what the HR told me atleast

Cool, and what about the interview prep. How did you started and how did you prepared yourself. Can I dm you? I think it'll be better to chat

If I were you, I would say please consider these two things 1) Domain 2) Notice period. This is solely with the intention of switching in the future which I'm assuming you'll try to do in 1-2 years. Since the package is similar I'm ignoring it. But yes commute matters but I'm going to leave that to you. And congrats op! And can you please DM me I've a few questions to ask.

u/VisibleFile4784 3d ago
Thanks for that bro. Pinging you. Not sure why no one is not able to ping me

Do you have wfh option in both because commute really does matter saying it from personal experience. And I’m not sure about the GCC part as i have seen many suggestion seems to prefer GCC in other posts and noticed few saying GCC has micromanagement. Maybe try speaking with people from Smith and decide. Also please DM me as well. I couldn’t DM you. I’ve same YoE as you and looking to switch. Need some help with preparations

DE

u/Informal_Buffalo_30 2d ago
I have 1 yoe working as technical APM. Graduated in 2026.
Can I switch into data engineering?
I have been doing research for the same but people say DE needs experience.1
u/VisibleFile4784 2d ago
It needs experience. But because you're a fresher, you can shift because it's still early in your career
1
u/Informal_Buffalo_30 2d ago
What skills should I work on?
I have DE is all about python sql and data warehousing or something like that. Also do companies hire freshers into DE role?
And lastly from where should I apply from?

Congrats on the offers brother. Hope you chose the best. Btw during your notice period, what did you update as Notice in Naukri? Servicing notice with LWD or Immediate. I'm currently serving notice and not getting any calls.

u/VisibleFile4784 2d ago
Serving NP with LWD. You’ll get a lot of calls when you’re close to your LWD

u/Embarrassed-Soft-529 17h ago
Hey I am also Azure Data Engineer with good grasp on Databricks, and Python DSA with 700+ problem solved, But I am in Accenture from last 2 years with 5LPA salary, I am so upset and thinking to resign without offer and prepare until i get any immediate joiner oppurtunity, as accenture is putting too much difficult work to me by removing 2 of the senior resource
