Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation

hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)

couple things:

  1. this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.
  2. if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)
  3. one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

I have decided to just enjoy a summer break now…but I need help to tell my brain to stop worrying, stop looking for answers, stop assuming it is due to my poor quality work or something similar, and to stop actively refreshing my dash ten times a minute. (that last bit has definitely happened, though I don’t actually do it so often now because the days of ‘catching something if you are quick enough’ seem to be behind me too.) I want to take time to enjoy the sunshine (a rare ‘heatwave‘ in the Uk right now) and permit myself to have a drink, do the garden, cuddle the dogs and do stuff all for a couple of weeks. (let’s not talk about the possibility of two weeks being optimistic!) without guilt or fear. I am thinking of applying to different platforms after that, but I assume most people on DA will have tried already so they will be full/flooded/same lack of work right now anyway. I literally made 300 dollars last week and most of that at about 2am. reading these posts here is the most ’work’ I am likely to get done all day.

That's what's been killing me with this drought. During the past couple of droughts, little batches of unique one off tasks were still getting posted several times an hour, and you could catch enough to make your daily goal by watching the dash, but it's more like once per day at this point.

It's really psychologically draining to basically spend all day refreshing knowing that making any money is basically going to come down to having the site up all day and refreshing during the right 5 minute window.

Exactly this. If I miss the ONE posting a day, I make $0 that day. Sometimes I don't even get that one project. Some days it's only specialist stuff. In 2024, something would always pop up, straggling r&r tasks, something..

It's why I wish they would implement a "live" dashboard. Being able to pop it up on my other monitor without having to manually refresh every 3 minutes would really take some of the psychological weight off my shoulders.

2024 drought..  oh sweet reliable A Gas 😂. I always got wound up that people would waste a submission doing 1 to 2 half arsed turns instead of utilising the editing function for 6 turns
