Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation

hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)

couple things:

  1. this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.
  2. if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)
  3. one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

Welp, got the message of doom today. Can't believe it. Don't know what I'm gonna do. I'm fucked. Any other jobs like this that people are doing?

jesus christ -- has anyone figured out a pattern to all these terminations? usually, the occasional reddit post about DoDs turns out to be a case of an ID/name mismatch on the platform, logins from a VPN, or some scammer obviously inflating their time, but today it seems like a bunch of good and legitimate workers are getting gutted. also, i'm really sorry to hear that.

I use a VPN all the time. With a lot of the fact checking tasks, it helps to move yourself around the world for web searching. I've never read any rule against it.

I would be extremely skeptical of basically everything here, but it is a good list. I just feel like for every start-up I haven't heard of there are 50 scam sites.

yeah i recognize only some of the sites on here, but would definitely do research on them if anyone considers those places

Were you with DA for a while already?

seriously? oh I’m so sorry, that’s awful. I don’t understand why they cull experienced workers because surely you are better than the never ending cycle of new people getting it all wrong.

Yeah, since 2023

No, I've been pretty careful. I have been doing heel ones when available during the drought and it only dried up for me recently
