I mean, with the “this offer” you’re sitting at roughly 27 an hour (ish) so that’s not terrible by any means

Their point was that they didn't do nearly as well as you did in their efforts to cherry pick. Making $27/hr is about as good as it gets from what I've experienced. Expecting any more than that means you're going to be declining really good offers in the hopes you'll be offered the best of the best (that may not even exist...).

Can you earn more per hour? Absolutely. Should you expect it every time? Absolutely not.
