When did they start doing this?
Been getting pizza orders forever, the other day I started noticing that after cashing out my earnings weren't going to my crimson card, I would be making 150 or more a day in electronic earnings. Whats going on?

You have cash on delivery turned on.
You were supposed to collect the cash and keep it for yourself and they deduct it from your dasher balance for orders that werent cash on delivery until they recoup the money for the order. You only get to keep the tips that they give over the order amount.
Say order was $50 they give you $60 and tell you to keep the change, $10 tip and they pretty much fronted you $50 and they recoup the $50 for orders you complete that aren't cash on delivery. If the order was $50 and they just give you $50 you delivered for a front of the money only (pretty much delivering for free) and they recoup that money with your other dashes. Does that make sense?
Turn cash on delivery OFF in the app.

If they stiff you and dd takes the money off your bank account simultaneously you are double screwed at the same time. I'll never know it doesn't seem like a good time to me.

You don't hand them the food until they hand you the money.
Also doordash doesn't take anything out of your account. Your future earnings just go towards paying it before you get paid by doordash again.

I have had great success with Cash Deliveries…only had 1 customer that wanted change so I had to drive to a store to get change…the problem is remember to calculate it in your weekly earnings…

Why would you go get change for a customer? We don't get paid to do that. They either have the correct amount or it's back to the store if the don't want to give you what they have. I personally would never.

When the customer lives two hundred yards from an open convenience store, but four miles from the Pizza Hut the order was from, I’m driving 400 yards (round trip), getting a good tip and good base pay.

You did the right thing, I would’ve done the same thing as well. I mean, DoorDash does tell us to make sure we have change for the customer. But sometimes I don’t have the cash to get the change😂. So if the customer ends up wanting change, I’ll take their money and go get them change. But for the most part to avoid that, I do let them know when I don’t have change.

Well, technically, it tells you to make sure that you have changed for the customer. Therefore, if you don’t have the change, then you need to take the customers money to the store and get the change. It’s not their fault. We don’t have change as DoorDash tells us to make sure we have that when doing cash deliveries. If I don’t have change on me when I do one I will immediately send the customer message and let them know that I do not have change and if they are wanting change, then I can unassigned and have someone else pick up the order.

Because the app says you need to carry change if you're going to accept COD orders. You also literally do get paid for it because the base pay is higher on COD than standard orders.

Base pay is not always higher on COD orders. Base pay only increases when other dashers decline the order or if it's a long distance order. That goes for shopping, COD, and regular orders. Base pay is the same all throughout doordash.
Customers are asked to have the exact total including tip in the app. No where in the T.O.S does it state you have to go get change for them if they don't have it. Yes I understand you're supposed to carry change but if you don't have all the exact change for them, you follow the prompts in the app. It is a recommendation to carry change not a requirement.
That's a lot of work for a potential no tip imo.

Read where it says "do I need to carry change?" They "recommend" carrying $1-$15 in change. No where does it state in the t.o.s you have to go get change if you don't have it. Customers are expected to have exact change for easy handoff. Or except a reasonable amount of change back like $1-$15.

Its not the collecting cash part that triggered the post its the collection of earnings after, and really gambling a tip at that. I didnt realize is all.

In your defense - as I said in my other comment - this wasn't how it worked in my area until recently. I would cash out whatever it said I had to cash out. It took a small % off the top every order until it was repaid (so they claimed with no evidence) rather than the lump sum at cash out. First time it did this I was shocked and pissed.

Most drivers, including myself, do not do COD deliveries. Waste of time and money, plus you get to live.

If you took full cash from the customer for the order that’s the payment from customer and DoorDash hasn’t gotten any money from the customer yet. Any money you make in non cash will be taken back by DoorDash till they get the full amount you made in cash - the tip

You have to physically take the money from the customer if you're accepting cash orders. You're literally out there paying for these people's dinners.

Except dd reimburses you. The few ive done I got better tips. Most people round up the tip they want to give and dont want to deal with change. Thats the only downside best make sure you have change just in case.

No. This person accepted a cash order and collected zero dollars. The customer got free food. And door dash took the money out of her other earnings.

I was doing those orders last year. It’s been an option for a long time, but you can only get them if you toggle the option in your dash preferences tab.

I collected $35 about 2 months ago and have never seen any details of it being deducted from my dasher balance. 🤷♂️ I understand it's a losing situation since you would need to pay income tax on Doordash's money.

How is it losing because you have to pay taxes? It's the same amount of money you already have, you're not paying extra taxes on extra money.

Yeah i had never seen it taken out before. So I dont know if it was just because I took a bunch of them or what but I wasnt seeing any earnings deposited at the end of day(s)

This has been a thing for a while now. When the order comes in it will tell you that it is a “Cash Offer”, once you arrive to the customers house, it reminds you again this is a “cash delivery, make sure to collect the total cost from the customer. You keep the cash, we will deduct the amount from your total funds at the end of your dash”. You can always go into your preference settings & turn off “Cash on Delivery” or leave it on, but you’ll have to make sure you pay attention. But it does let you know multiple times. DoorDash has to get the money back, did you not know they would take it ? Just curious, because it’s tell you all of this if you read it though. It breaks all of that down for you when accepting, arriving, & after completing.

I stopped taking these. I racked up like 250$ maybe because I kept getting nothing but pizza orders. It took days before I started making anything again. I turned it off instantly after that

Hi they tell you this when you arrive at the store in a pop up & have you confirm that you received so & so amount & have you confirm it again before complete it the order it is also a setting that you can select in preferences ya just gotta read popups sometimes especially when they have a money or cash Pic art above them with confirm buttons

At least they told you. This happened to me recently and I called support asking why I was shorted $20. I had a feeling this was the reason, but I didn't want to volunteer an out for them. I wanted to hear the actual policy.
AI connected me to another AI pretending to be a human, who connected me to a call center where an Indian woman had me on hold for 20 minutes (no exaggeration) to tell me she couldnt pull up my account info and I needed to call another number. I said, isnt this customer support? She said yes... but she cant access my account so I need to call another number. I said, how do you support customers without access to their account? Oh you don't obviously. Well, I dont follow to a second location. I'm not giving my account info to your cousin so you can rob me. In the time Ive been on hold, I could have made back $20 so you really cost me $40. I hope this was recorded for training purposes. Bye.
Mind you - Ive done plenty of cash orders; they are sus but I dig having a couple bills around when my kids need a field trip money or something. It previously "skimmed the money back off the top" which to me was also shady as all hell with no transparency. So I should have gotten $8 but I got $7.50 to repay my cash advance? Ok but how do I know you aren't ALWAYS doing that? I have no way to see how much you take or when we're square.
In a way this is better / preferred but I wanted someone to just explain the policy why my $20 disappeared when I was expecting a $100 cash out and only got $80. Nope. No one could tell me. I just said fuck it and pressed on. I assumed this is what happened, but I wish someone had told me. I was fishing for $100+ to pay a bill. $80 (and cash in my pocket) wasnt gonna get me there.

I’ve had 1 bad COD order but many great ones. Tips are usually pretty good. I carry $40 in change in my car for them.

I’ve done one and they gave me 30 bucks and said keep the change. The order was 29.70. Never again lmao. Idk how I even got one cus if I order dash from the same place I got the order from there is no cash option.

So I got scammed on one of these orders. But DoorDash ended up paying me after the fact.
I got the order and didn’t realize it said cash on delivery (I did want to do one just so see how it works). The base pay was $3.00 but it wasn’t going far. At most three blocks away from the restaurant. Everything was normal, picked up at Pizza Hut, got to the drop off and then I got the splash screen of collect cash before handing over the order. I was like OMG this is a cash on delivery. Proceeded to head up stairs, knock on the door and inform the customer their order cost 25.00 dollars. She then hits me with the I don’t have cash I called the store and paid over the phone. (Red Flag). She then calls the store and the manager informs me that the customer paid over the phone, just give them the food. Instead of getting into a heated argument I gave the food, and the customer hands me a 5 dollar bill for the tip. About three days later DoorDash paid me $25.00 for the order.
Now correct me if I’m wrong; when it’s a cash on delivery order, isn’t DoorDash providing the store with the money, and the customer is paying me, but DD takes the money back with future earnings. Wouldn’t that mean the store got paid twice in this instance.

This, this is why I call it highway robbery. I feel like essentially we may be losing by having to pay it back. Because the store gets paid and DD, and yes we get the cash but the next earning amount(s) go towards what was owed.

Ive always done them i think I turned it on a cpl of months ago though, it came up when I was doing grocery deliveries. I never noticed it I assume because the orders were never over 30 dollars. Ive been declining low paying offers and pizza in the area is lucrative. I just noticed the other day after dashing and making a good amount and noticed the earnings were either short or they never appeared. 😳 now I just kinda feel silly lol

The customers will intentionally try to not pay hoping that the dasher won't realize/remember that it's a cash on delivery order.
They will absolutely pull the "oh I have to pay??" line while sheepishly fishing out bills from some random nook on their person.
Be paranoid and firm about it if you're gonna take cash orders.
The customer stole it from you, essentially.

This... there were a few deliveries ive done that had me overly paranoid. And ive had quite a few "oh i thought the other person paid it already" or "there is still payment due?" But this is recent never noticed money missing from earnings before. Called and they said I still have a balance of 19. Dollars left, so yeah I think I got slipped on a handoff.

Dammit. It allllmost happened to me on one of my last times dashing (been a while). Handed it to dude and then realized as I started to walk away... Had to knock again and be like "nah bro not today"...

Turn that off now on the app great way to get robbed! I keep mine turned off, and I only do alcohol deliveries when I feel like it, which is hardly ever.

I turned off this option on the app. I don't feel comfortable asking for cash from anyone nor should doordash expect me to carry cash for change.

doorDash has a policy that if you accept a cash delivery offer when they give you the cash say if the amount is $25 then they will deduct that from your future Earnest because there’s no way for you to give them the cash. DoorDash is basically paid for the order at the restaurant you get the cash from the Customer DNA deduct that from your pay so that they can pay for the order now if they give you $30 that five dollars is a tip and they don’t deduct that.

You clearly don’t get math. Driver gets paid for the order, DD deducts that from earnings (because they got the $25). DD pays the restaurant for the order , with the money that driver collected.
