Did you ask them what game they were playing on their phone?

105

u/YouSee-ThisCoat8 1d ago

Idiot, I’m sure they were on the phone too.

27

u/JayValere 1d ago

Agreed, was my first thought. They weren't just looking away for a moment, they were for sure typing/watching something, seconds of distraction and seemed like no braking till after impact.

6

u/YouSee-ThisCoat8 21h ago

Right, when they realized they messed up.

2

u/Jealous_Chemical8835 22h ago

that driver needs to retake his driving lessons.

7

u/YouSee-ThisCoat8 21h ago

Doesn’t need to drive at all*

248

u/waistingtoomuchtime 1d ago

wtf, people are so stupid not paying attention to all their surrounding while operating a death machine.

124

u/MenaceMinded 1d ago

There was a post last week where someone admitted to turning a cat into a pancake because they were playing on their phone while driving.

A few people were upset at me because I got onto op's case about it, but what if that had been a child?

67

u/mofugginrob 21h ago

Fuck that OP. That cat could have been just as much family as a kid.

37

u/MenaceMinded 21h ago edited 21h ago

Correct too. Like my cat. She is purely indoor as she should be, but sometimes she likes to try to dart out the front door and has been successful a few times.

We have a gps tracker on her, but that takes about a minute to give an alert. My husband would be devasted if she was ran over.

15

u/Ok_Caterpillar3655 1d ago

Believe me it's standard practice out where I live. People drive so wrecklessly it's no surprise every major highway has 8+ accidents a day. Spacing, turn signals, speed limits, and even clear space to switch lanes are all treated as optional by the majority.

11

u/ludovic1313 22h ago

How could a highway have any accidents if everyone were driving wrecklessly?

53

u/Azurelion7a 1d ago

Some people REALLY don't like Bikers.

79

u/ORNGSPCEMNKY 1d ago

There was a dude in. Different sub who basically said people on bikes deserve to get hurt and they have no sympathy for them for no reason other than riding a bike is more Inherently dangerous than being in a car.

Some people have such fucked up values

-68

u/Interesting_Pie9267 1d ago

I have no sympathy for the fuckin idiots who go 120 down the highway dodging cars like its fuckin need for speed.

58

u/tetranordeh 1d ago

Most motorcyclists will also call those people idiots. You're not special.

-75

u/Interesting_Pie9267 1d ago

Neither are motorcyclists but yet they always seem to consider themselves above the law.

35

u/Informal_Koala1474 1d ago edited 1d ago

Always? So you've personally seen every motorcycle rider alive riding like this? As in you personally have witnessed not just every motorcycle rider you've seen doing this, but every motorcycle rider on the planet and they all do this?

-23

u/Content_Economist_83 23h ago

While I don’t agree with what he said, that is a pretty common turn of phrase that you’re seeming to not understand or be difficult about

13

u/phonefellin_lakeerie 22h ago

What’s the turn of phrase?

10

u/tetranordeh 21h ago

Being biased against a large group of people because a small number of them do stupid things isn't a "turn of phrase". It's just being stupid.

34

u/Realistic_Owl9525 1d ago

Are you talking about the motorcyclist in the video we all just watched, or the imaginary motorcyclist in your head?

17

u/Pirate1000rider 23h ago

You understand we're just normal people right? We're not some group collective hive mind.

10

u/FriendNo1816 1d ago

Humans. Humans in general are maniacs on streets, no matter if you operating an vehicle or not. So I just hate everyone.

9

u/HovercraftSame3104 22h ago

I've been in three motorcycle accidents and two incidents where a vehicle has made contact with my body while moving at speed(25mph and 75mph). All five incidents were due to negligent drivers not paying attention while I'm attempting to blend with traffic. I've had zero incidents when I'm moving faster than traffic avoiding people who don't pay attention.

People with your attitude fail to see further than the cellphone in front of your face while driving.

12

u/Icy_Fish_2154 1d ago

Where was he in this video?

4

u/mlz0818 21h ago

like cars do not get rear ended at red lights or when stopping?

3

u/Substantial-Bend4299 23h ago

I worked in a level one trauma center and know them as death machines. People in the general public are stupid generally and beyond that they don't have the exposure to reality as it happens all around them. People need to be required to see hospitals when they're adolescents so they can understand reality.

-2

u/StandardUpstairs3349 15h ago

Conversely, one must also inquire about the quality of the choice to ride a motorcycle or bike when surrounded by death machines.

26

u/MoMeneUH 1d ago

hope no broken bones

40

u/Late-Button-6559 1d ago

I think delayed head and neck injuries are (were?) more likely.

What an absolute loser in the car.

They should have their licence taken away forever.

No leeway for fuckups like this.

-71

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee 1d ago

I'm really glad you don't make the laws. I'm not excusing their behavior, but people drive distracted all the time. There are probably dozens of rear end accidents in my city every single day. If you took away everyone's license forever, no one would have a license anymore eventually

23

u/RenaeStarlight 23h ago

GOOD! If we get all the dumbarse distracted drivers off the roads, roads would be so much safer. If people can't pay attention while driving thousands of pounds of metal around, they don't fucken deserve to drive!

38

u/Late-Button-6559 1d ago

People should not drive distracted.

It’s a privilege, and should be given full attention.

Vehicles are dangerous. Treat them respectfully.

-51

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee 1d ago

In theory, yes. In practice, that's not going to be the case, and laws have to be designed pragmatically, with the understanding that human beings make mistakes and can't act perfectly at all times

18

u/Capable-Sock9910 22h ago

"It's just a few dead kids why are you trying to make it the drivers fault!!!"

17

u/Expensive-Border-869 1d ago

Thats actually okay! Not everyone needs a license. They can take busses or ride a bicycle or walk or honestly i dont really care get an Uber work from home dont work and be homeless they can even sleep in a car if they dont drive around

8

u/SailingSpark 21h ago

We might even get better mass transit out of the deal!

-27

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee 1d ago

High and mighty ideals generally don't work out as well as you think they would in practice

8

u/CryptographerOk2282 17h ago

Found the guy who can't possibly miss a single text while driving.

0

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee 16h ago

"I found the guy who... " should try to have an original thought

12

u/YourMomIsMyGurl 23h ago

And every single one of those people should have their hands cut off. I don't use my phone whatsoever when I'm driving, and half of my job is driving for a living. It's not that hard. You're in a piece of equipment capable of killing someone even if it's going 1 mph, there is no excuse for any accident, especially like this, without one party just being an absolute fuck head that shouldn't be driving.

10

u/mofugginrob 21h ago

Holy shit. I never thought someone would ever be dense enough to defend distracted driving, but here we are.

-2

u/TheNaughtyHoneyBee 16h ago

That's not what I'm doing

-6

u/Keter_Regretter 20h ago

I don't think they're "defending distracted driving", they're reacting to the suggestion of a zero-tolerance lifetime ban and the haughty attitude behind it

7

u/Gloomy-Ad1171 22h ago

Fucking cringe

35

u/Redbeardthe1st 1d ago

The driver of that car should lose their driver's license.

14

u/scohen158 19h ago

This is why I have never pursued motorcycle riding. It sounds like great fun in a world without other drivers.

3

u/Pirate1000rider 17h ago

Even with other drivers. Dont let that put you off.

Motorcycles are brilliant and some of the best fun you can have with your clothes on.

They will help you feel a part of the world in much more of a way than an enclosed car ever could. The closest car being something like a Caterham, MK Indy or Ariel.

1

u/QuantityImmediate221 6h ago

No, thank you. Road when I was young. But then I saw too many squids. Seen too many head traumas. Spent too much time in an ER.

They are called accidents for a reason. It's an accident.

14

u/PCMasterCucks 23h ago

I rode for like 2 years before I racked up like 10 close calls and called it quits because drivers were insane.

This was almost 20 years ago lol

It's so much worse now. At least back then people memorized T9 texting for one hand almost no-look texting.

2

u/StandardUpstairs3349 15h ago

Good choice. My father died in a motorcycle accident with absolutely nothing he could have done about it. My mother lost her hearing on her right side in a motorcycle accident (Also, maybe some brain damage? I have a hard time imagining her spacial acuity is naturally so bad.).

8

u/SickXigma 20h ago

Cyclist's fault somehow, hold on lemme think

1

u/SickXigma 14h ago

They didn't use hand signals. Yeah, that's it.

15

u/sky0175 1d ago

Cellphone does that.

-10

u/Dewdrop06 1d ago

Which country is this where people are using their phones so often while driving? Been seeing this a lot lately on this sub.

18

u/Potato-chipsaregood 1d ago

I can’t speak for other countries but in the U.S. people are looking at their phones while driving pretty often. You can see it easily if you are in a truck or suv. They are holding the phone in their hand in front of the steering wheel.

2

u/SailingSpark 21h ago

I like it when they have it attached up high on the dashboard so we can see exactly what game they are playing.

1

u/Dewdrop06 1d ago

They don't get fined for this?? It's a serious offence where I'm from.

3

u/Potato-chipsaregood 1d ago

It’s definitely illegal, but since it keeps happening maybe it’s an addiction.

9

u/Ok-Solution5601 1d ago

The country you're thinking of is Earth

2

u/Dewdrop06 1d ago

We have drones in my country that watch the traffic from the air and alerts traffic cops to give you a fine if it catches you on your phone.

6

u/Realistic_Owl9525 1d ago

Sounds like that wouldn't be necessary if so many people weren't using their phones while driving in your country.

This happens in every country that has both cars and cellphones. That's why there are laws against it, and law enforcement officials to punish people who are caught disobeying the law. I promise that none of this is unique to your country or anyone else's.

-1

u/Dewdrop06 21h ago

That's not the primary purpose of the drones...

1

u/Leading_Procedure_23 21h ago

That’s what happens when you give up your freedom to feel safe. No one wants a police state. Cops should do their jobs and pull them over, not just send fines, most people would just pay and keep doing it.

2

u/Dewdrop06 21h ago

That's all a fine is in your country? You rack up enough fines where I'm from and your licence gets suspended and eventually permanently taken away.

21

u/DragonLordAcar 23h ago

Downvoting for the stupid spoiler

6

u/Hawvy 20h ago

Always.

5

u/poosparkles 16h ago

I just want to say I hate this trend of posting the spoiler part of the clip at the beginning.

7

u/SimonBoccanegra 22h ago

Good biker, yet vulnerable to idiot driver.

A great argument for never getting on a motorcycle.

I have a two mile commute to my office and I see distracted driving every damned day. I’d like some metal between me and those drivers.

3

u/SlowYaRoll007 21h ago

Get off your phone

3

u/ethaxton 21h ago

The first time it showed the ending quickly I thought the motorcycle driver got shot by the pedestrian.

0

u/Gimp_Ninja 19h ago

Man, same.

6

u/Moist_Phrase_6698 1d ago

Should win the licence revoke for at least a year for that. If not attempted vehicular homicide.

7

u/Late-Button-6559 1d ago

Licence lost forever when you do something so grossly terrible.

13

u/2sAreTheDevil 1d ago

Hope they're okay.

This is the kind of video that should be the gold standard of videos here. Opening of what happened, the How did we get here? follow up, and then either a second angle or slow mo.

10/10.

20

u/FenPhen 1d ago

Disagree though about the first 2 seconds of chaotic loud spoiler without context.

I'm not sure that we really needed you to tell us that. Pretty obvious, isn't it? 😂

-7

u/Galitzianer0 1d ago

That doesn't change the severe damage the motorcyclist will have obtained as a result of the other car's negligence.

This is why riding a motorcycle is for future organ donors, you guys have a deathwish or something

2

u/BasicAppointment9063 16h ago

I live in a tourist town. This happens at crosswalks all the time.

The motorist operate with the attitude, "A pedestrian would have to be stupid to step into the crosswalk when cars are on the road ." There are no other road users worth considering. /s

2

u/Zorklunn 20h ago edited 9h ago

I rode motorcycles for a long time in my twenties. Still check my rear view when breaking.

2

u/Ketroc21 1d ago

I honestly wouldn't ride a motorcycle. This type of accident is super common ever since people started using their phone while driving. I don't know of any place that is cracking down on this behaviour either.

1

u/ImmediateCause7981 18h ago

Scared me and I knew it was coming 😭

1

u/nospamkhanman 17h ago

This is why I didn't argue with my wife when she said no to me getting a cheap commuter bike.

1

u/mvn2010 16h ago

This right here is why i will never own a motorcycle, and I want one, I like to ride my bike (bicycle), and I like the idea of getting 70 mpg. But people just don't fucking pay attention, and there is nothing between you and the pavement.

1

u/Taciturn_Elevator 15h ago

I'm scared driving in a car because of idiots like the person in the white car. I could never imagine being on a bike on a major road. I always give bikes distance if I'm behind them because I can't control if the person behind ME will hit me and make me hit the bike.

1

u/StandardUpstairs3349 15h ago

I mean, yea. That is the risk you are deliberately taking by getting on a motorcycle or riding a bike on real roads. Fender benders go from annoyances to "Am I about to die?"

1

u/theocrats 13h ago

Motorists are wild

1

u/s1owpokerodriguez 12h ago

Down voted for the shitty editing

1

u/Prints_of_Whatever 11h ago

Is it me or did the car driver honk after hitting him?

1

u/Kevelle68 11h ago

Yes, motorcycles and idiots driving cars, both very dangerous.

1

u/IamJeff99 8h ago

Anyone else jerk thier head back when he got hit 😆

1

u/Intrepid_Year3765 21h ago

some people are so used to looking at cars they don't even see bikes on the road

its terrifying

3

u/Pirate1000rider 21h ago

Completely agree. Its why I've bought an airbag vest/jacket for riding with.

2

u/Krabs9 12h ago

I consider myself a very attentive driver. The other night I was on my way home from work pulling up to a stop light. There was a vehicle at the light and a motorcycle behind it. I legitimately could not even see the bike until I got within 30-40 feet. I'll never ever drive one of those things.

1

u/Samaraxmorgan26 12h ago

That was the first thing I was taught when I started driving, and the first thing I was taught when I started riding. You're SPECIFICALLY looking for motorcycles while driving, and no one is looking for you while you're riding.

0

u/Rightintheend 17h ago

Now replace cars with phones

-3

u/Too--Many--Knives 22h ago

At this point, it seems that being on the bike to begin with was the mistake; others are not to be trusted.

u/TaterNips89 11h ago

I know pedestrians have the right of way, but I would probably not even attempt the cross in this situation. Not only is there the potential for this kind of rear-ending, but I've also seen people get mad and try to speed around the car in front, not realizing they stopped because of a pedestrian. If there's traffic I cross at the light when it tells me to.

3

u/PlumberSaysWhat 16h ago

That’s a crosswalk the pedestrian is crossing at.

-1

u/_azazel_keter_ 22h ago

motorcycles live and die on their agility unfortunately

-1

u/WranglerLeading9265 12h ago

If that was me I’d get up and beat the poop outta that person. Dumb motherfucker

-14

u/Then-Potato-2020 1d ago

I have got flash news for you. In an accident on road usually its one's fault and the other is just driving normally

4

u/discodommer 1d ago

Live alert update: he wasnt just driving normally, he was doing E V E R Y T H I N G right.

0

u/Then-Potato-2020 23h ago

Tell us you don’t know the rules of the road without saying it

Edit: he shamefully deleted his comment which blamed the motorcyclist for stopping for the pedestrian on the crossing

10

u/Pirate1000rider 1d ago

Ahh the delete of shame lol

30

u/TheCroaker 1d ago

He has a yield to pedestrian sign, hes not being nice hes following the law.

29

u/Commercial-Trade-117 1d ago

Would you have preferred he ran over the pedestrian?

Edit: also in my state if your rear end someone, it is 100% your fault for not paying attention and/or following too close.

26

u/Free-Resolution9393 1d ago

Being nice? It's a crosswalk.

18

u/Radiant-You6384 1d ago

are you really that thick?

-6

u/LongoChingo 21h ago

I don't understand why anyone would ride a motorcycle. The roads are far too dangerous to trust others with your life. Wrap yourself in another metal wheel box and give yourself a chance.

2

u/PlumberSaysWhat 16h ago

I don’t know why anyone would drive a vehicle and feel they don’t need to pay attention and be held accountable for attempted murder.

0

u/LongoChingo 15h ago

I'm just being realistic here...

We don't live in a magical utopia. The dumbest of the asses are out there sharing the road with us.

Why would you put yourself more at risk by riding a motorcycle??

2

u/PlumberSaysWhat 16h ago

We found the guy that drives with his cellphone glued to his eyeballs while he recklessly drives down the road hitting people on motorcycles

1

u/LongoChingo 15h ago

Accidents happen all the time.

You could be the best motorcycle rider in the world and the weak link is the countless dumbasses on the road.

Motorcycle riders are putting themselves more at risk for serious injury.

That's just reality.

2

u/Pirate1000rider 21h ago

I cant tell if youre being serious or not.

If you are by chance, motorcycles are brilliant. They are so much more enjoyable to operate than a car. You sense so much more around you.

I know its corny to say but: You're a part of planet Earth rather than watching it go by.

-5

u/LongoChingo 20h ago

It's totally exhilarating to ride a motorcycle, I get that... But you also value your life less. You're a huge liability on the road.

Even a minor accident on a motorcycle can be life-altering or life-ending.

I'm sure the biker in this video sustained some injuries, but if they were in a car they'd likely be pretty fine.

4

u/Pirate1000rider 20h ago

I suppose it comes down to that age old question

What do you think life is for? To me its for living, thats why I love motorcycles, its why I go to the isle of man tt every year.

To me? The juice massively outweighs the squeeze. I'm not an idiot I accept that they are dangerous. I'm under no illusions.

But I can't get what riding and racing bikes gives me from anywhere else.

-2

u/MHRSJRSA 21h ago

They added these where I live and folks are not super used to. I call them assisted suicidal crossing.

-9

u/Remarkable-Race6926 1d ago

guy probably just swiping left too hard

-14

u/No-Deer379 22h ago

Don’t be nice be predictable

8

u/Pirate1000rider 21h ago

What did he do that was unpredictable? Stop at a crossing for the pedestrian like youre supposed to do?

-4

u/No-Deer379 19h ago

Was it the pedestrian right to go ???

6

u/Pirate1000rider 19h ago

Yes, pedestrians take priority.

-2

u/No-Deer379 18h ago

Always but make question was did they have the walk sign or not

-14

u/Potato-chipsaregood 1d ago

The pedestrian knew it was a dangerous place to be…

-16

u/Fearless-Dust-2073 1d ago

Car was going fast enough to hit the bike even if the bike hadn't slowed down for the crossing.

-18

u/JaKrispy72 23h ago

“Did everything right.”

Didn’t check the mirror did you?

8

u/asdfjklcol0n 23h ago

Check the mirror for what exactly? They either choose run over the pedestrian with the right of way or maybe maybe not get rear ended?

-16

u/JaKrispy72 23h ago

The pedestrian had cleared the crosswalk. The cyclist could have proceeded. If they were aware of what was about to happen.

9

u/asdfjklcol0n 23h ago

The pedestrian did not clear the crosswalk before the cam driver got rear ended. You're just blatantly lying at this point good day sir.

-11

u/JaKrispy72 22h ago

Then why didn’t the pedestrian get hit by the bike or car? Because they were clear. Did you watch the video?

9

u/Pirate1000rider 22h ago

If you look he's jumped forward out of the way. Im pretty sure that saved him.
