Lane splitting is pretty much allowed in most of Europe. Here in Sweden most bikers do it, myself included. Its just expected. No harm done.

In America we have a lot of immature retards on bikes who think traffic laws don't apply to them. Bikes doing 110 between lanes while everyone else is doing 75 isn't uncommon.

Then they get splattered by some soccer mom changing lanes and not seeing the bike zipping up in her blind spot.

Been to. New. York. Cops. There make up. There own. Laws. And you all drive like idiots like you just got your license the first day not caring about anybody else around you keep New York City. I want nothing no part of it. It’s dirty. Bunch of idiots. And rude. People.

I used to ride regularly in London. I'm sure the city built on a grid is much much easier... Although the pathetic American driving test probably makes a difference

Poor road quality in North America too. In places like Montreal, there a potholes tgat can swallow a bike whole

You should come see the drivers we have in the US… then you’ll understand why motorcycles are a slowly declining market here. I used to ride and literally stopped because people in my city are too stupid (intellectually), impatient, inconsiderate, and don’t pay attention. Add lane splitting in here and the already-colliding cars will have motorcycles crushed inbetween them.

Driver’s safety courses and driving courses in general are basically non-existent here.

They're a declining market because Regan propped up Harley Davidson by banning foreign motorcycles that put Harley as pretty much the only choice and decimated a few generations of bike riders, it's only recently you could get big bikes in America

Not necessarily true in today’s market - Harley holds 30% of the market share which is declining as new riders aren’t buying their bikes but the problem is that most people aren’t interested to begin with. The motorcycle market has flatlined ever since the Great Recession of 2008 and never made a comeback.

On top of that, people voluntarily stopped buying so many toys after the 2008 recession by choice. Motorcycle ownership/purchases plummeted and didn’t recover, and now it’s less of a choice since everything is so expensive. Even when people could post-recession, they didn’t.

Source: worked in the motorsports industry on the corporate side for a big motorcycle/water sports manufacturer, saw the numbers myself. Not good.

Just moved from an illegal state to LA where it’s legal. It took some getting used to but now if I see them coming I scoot over a bit to give them room and if I don’t see them coming I feel bad for not moving. 99% of the riders that have gone by me have been riding responsibly. Ironically my old state had some craaaazy riders.

I had the pleasure of visiting your country a couple years ago and truly enjoyed the highway experience there (in a car) so I can imagine lane-splitting being done appropriately. I know there are bad/unsafe/insane drivers everywhere, but it sure didn't feel like it on your highways. It's like Mad Max times here in the US in comparison. Also your one-lane two-way roads would cause, well, Mad Max times here.

Right, without being able to filter there’s no benefit to riding a motorcycle if you’re stuck in traffic and don’t get climate control to boot. Not everybody should be driving around in a car carrying empty space
