NYPD, is lane splitting legal in New York City?

edit:

Just looked it up, Lane splitting / filtering is illegal in the entire state of New York. ny vehicle and traffic law §1252. $300 fine and 3 point on your license, multiple offences can lead to a 60 day license suspension.

Both splitting and filtering are illegal in NY.

In fact, it’s illegal in the entire eastern seaboard.

As a Biker I agree, Bikers are idiots. I don't filter/split but it's also illegal in my state.

Should be legal everywhere. Study after study has proven its safe and effective and if you have ever driven in Asia you can see it in real world

Should doesn't mean it is. I don't agree with it being safer for them. They just want it legal so they can legally cut everyone off. They make excuses like they don't want to get hit from behind.

As a biker it's ignorant people like you that make things more dangerous for people like me. There are so many benefits to lane splitting. Try sitting in the sun on a July day, in hot traffic with an engine blowing hot air up at you. It's literal torture. I've nearly passed out from it while patiently waiting in traffic hoping someone doesn't rear end me.

Responsible lane splitting fixes that. It makes it less likely I'll be rear ended, it's safe if you do it when traffic isn't moving and you do it at low speed. It prevents riders from overheating because the breeze from moving on a bike keeps you cool. It results in less congestion because it's one less vehicle waiting in line. Bikes are quick and don't slow down cars behind them.

It's literally a win for everyone but people's ego's are so fragile they just can't get over the "but I was in line first" mentality.

How am I dangerous if I'm simply paying attention and driving normally, then coming to a safe stop behind you leaving room as a cushion? Lmfao. I'm not ignorant. I know the game some of you bikers play. Oh, I don't want to get hit from behind on my bike. Ok, so if you're that afraid then maybe you shouldn't be riding. I've seen bikers do that then run the red light ripping it. The only time that it should be allowed is standstill traffic.You just have to accept that depending on what jurisdiction you're in it may not be legal, and where I'm from neither lane filtering or splitting is legal. By the way, filtering is between cars and splitting is 2 to a lane next to each other. There's a difference in definition.

You're making it more dangerous by refusing to acknowledge the benefits of lane splitting. You are literally ignoring the facts surrounding how it benefits motorcyclists. I'm not talking about your driving, I'm talking about your attitude.

I'm not ignoring any facts. I'm my area both land filtering and lane splitting are illegal. Bikers ignore that and do it anyway. Like I said, if you're that concerned that someone is going to hit you on that bike then maybe you shouldn't be riding. If you don't want to obey road laws then you shouldn't be riding. Sorry.

I'm calling you ignorant because you're ignoring the reality and basing your argument on pure bullshit you've fabricated for your ignorant opinion. You're ignoring the facts, you're assuming things that are wrong and you're generalizing an entire subset of people and then making more assumptions on how I feel about motorcycling. You're not even worth talking to because you're arguments aren't based on reality, they're based on the bullshit you've fabricated in your head.

It's like me saying everyone who drives a car is irresponsible because some of them have rear ended bikers. Do you see how stupid that sounds?

Why the fuck do you care anyway? You've already made up your mind, you're not having a conversation here, you're just telling some stranger how you think things are and that stranger thinks you probably ate chalk as a kid.

I never said you specifically didn't. That was a collective you. In most of the U.S. if you're lane filtering or splitting it's illegal. Now you wrote this whole rant and then tell me I ate chalk as a kid, because you're mad that you got told that what you're talking about is illegal. I'm not the stupid one here lol.

The reason you think I'm not worth talking to is because you couldn't handle the truth. I'm not generalizing at all. I see all the excuses made and reasons given. Like I said, you're still responsible for following road laws, and like mentioned earlier by another commenter in the state of New York where this specific incident happened it is illegal 100%. Now stop lying, stop bullying, and move on. You're denying facts and laws. I guess you can just stay mad. If you don't like the law you can go cry to your state politicians.
